Bbc Genome
i have been viewing this site with great interest ,& have already made a long list of programmes worth digging up. starting from 1936 to 2009 its an array of information though i am currently working through 1958 using the BBC television service pages. though my question is ,whats my chances of getting such copies from the archives? few are on youtube, but others probably not? as for itv it only has an unoficial website ,with little on it ,so i have a plan b for that ,its the newspaper lib. alongside loads of others ,one key ep of tomorrows world comes to mind date november 5th 1993 which focuses on time travel ,i missed the ep ,& have waited years to get the full ep seen. though if anyone here can help ? let us know.

I don't think archives exist for every TV show from the year dot. Back then, stuff was mainly live. Even recorded shows were often wiped when they needed to record a different show.
I worked as a tech in Electrical Engineering at a college in Yorkshire in the 70's and YTV used to give us their old video tapes (wiped). It was reel to reel, about 1" or more, and you didn't get all that long on a massive spool - tape speed was quite high. Video taping was therefore expensive, and YTV didn't re-use the tapes much before disposal - I guess any wear due to the helical scanning video head could cause unacceptable dropouts. So after a bit of use, YTV gave us their video tapes. This made VTR even more expensive to run. I wasn't actually in the TV dept, so the above info is only stuff I picked up at tea beak etc. TLDR - tape was expensive back in the day. |

You might want to try things like the BFI Mediatheque or university libraries.
