Following the shock victory of Greg Rutherford and Natalie Lowe last series, Strictly is back for its fifteenth series. Strictly has been rebranded this year as Strictly XV (that’s fifteen for those of you who don’t speak Roman) and just in case you weren’t yet aware that this series is the fifteenth the producers decided that they’d emphasise this by adding the tagline Fifteen To One, which will probably lead to a lawsuit from Channel 4.
As this is the fifteenth series, you guessed it, there’ll be fifteen celebrities who will dance for their place week in, week out until eventually there is only one left. There has been fifteen celebrities for the past four series, but this is something that is being really emphasised this year since it’s the fifteenth series and all that.
It’s not just the name that’s changed as for the fifteenth series the producers have decided to shake up the pro line-up by digging into the large pool of “popular” (popular also meaning available and cheap) past professional dancers.
The judging line-up will also see some change this year but not the changes you may have been expecting. After The Express newspaper decided to run a campaign to get Len Goodman to stay on for another series, he has decided to return as “fifteen series’ sounds better than fourteen”. However Bruno Tonioli has decided to hang up his dancing shoes and will be replaced by the equally bonkers Nicole Scherzinger who won Dancing with the Stars back in 2010.
The judging line-up is therefore Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and the aforementioned Len and Nicole.
As they have proven to be so popular (in the loosest sense of the word) in the past, the producers are promising more theme weeks than ever this series with Prom Night, Movie Week, Dance Heaven or Dance Hell Week, Switch-Up Week and a Halloween Spooktacular all planned for the series so far with potentially more to follow.
As for the celebrities, they will be announced one by one over the course of the next few weeks (/over the course of tonight).
Cue the theme tune!
