Maybe Simon knows that is exposing her weakness doing uptempo songs
she can be doing more relevant material that might not be "up tempo" but isn't slowed down dirges either

"Exs and Ohs" being the perfect example

she hasn't been doing stuff like that any week, let alone every week

and yes she could be doing stuff like that every week if thats what she is good at, there are artists who have had hugely successful careers staying within a genre, you can still show versatility within your preferred genre without having to go outside it

About a month ago she said she really wanted to do uptempo and since then she'd done nothing but slowed down John Lewis dirges so pretty sure she doesn't figure in their plans for a winner
Interestingly after her second song, she said about how she always gets told to do something different but that those performances are what she wants to be doing and it's who she is as an artist. I thought it was weird that none of the judges mentioned that it was another slow song, usually Louis and Nicole are happy to bring it up, but they had nothing but praise for her second song. I wonder if Simon had a word with them during the breaks.

I thought Emily's songs were really dull, safe choices tonight. Likeable songs but one of them should have been a bit more up beat at least. At least Louie and Nicole were honest after her first performance but I was amazed they all applauded her performance singing Mad World. I don't see what she did to change that song, to make it her own.

Emily's gone, but I reckon Matt will be with her in the bottom 2.

And then next week we'll have everyone making a big deal of the fact that every act has been in the bottom two, it's so close, anyone could win, you really need to vote etc etc. Demon's already been going on about it being anyone's race for a few weeks now, even when it looked like Matt would run away with it.

I find Emily pretty dull - not my style at all - but how they can accuse her of doing the same thing every week as if it's a bad thing and then give Honey G standing ovations week after week for doing EXACTLY the same thing every week is beyond me.

Good point well made. The Honey G business has ruined any teeny tiny bit of credibility the show had left

That doing the same thing rubbish makes me laugh, she does the type of songs thst suit her best.
Leona Lewis never moved
James Arthur did tgd same thing every week

Never heard anyone complaining then
Because they were really good at what they did! You can get away with doing pretty much the same type of songs/arrangements every week if you have a phenomenal voice (Leona) or an interesting voice and the personality to go with it (James). Emily has neither. She has a tiny little voice and fails every time to put life and personality into her performances. The only one that worked was Creep, and that was because of the staging, not because of the vocals.

its quite funny sometimes reading this forum and all the conspiracy theories about the level of manipulation and control the producers have but when Emily gets given predicable songs with dreary arrangements every week its all her fault for being bland and boring
She could easily inject some life into the songs (Aiden Grimshaw managed it with Mad World a few years ago). It's not as if she doesn't have a personality. The problem is that it only comes out after she's finished performing. When she's performing, she shuts down and we end up with a glassy eyed, whispering waif.

Of the four semi-finalists, Emily is the only one that doesn't make me cringe.

None of the semi-finalists make me cringe. I just find Emily the least engaging.

There was something about Emily's treatment that reminded me of Lauren Platt's treatment in 2014's semi final, singing the same kind of songs she performs every week. That probably means she'll be gone tonight, even though I'd rather 5AM to leave before her. Matt's treatment also reminded me of Ben Haenow's from the same year wierdly enough, his second song was criticized by Mel even though it was decent enough.

To be fair Matt's been sabotaged more than Emily tonight as he was rammed on first, and the song choices really exposed his weaknesses.
But then Emily only had a one person gap before she performed her second song which I thought was a bit harsh!

I want Emily to get through along with 5am and then the two big divas to fight it out for the last spot! Variety is the spice of life after all!

I do hope so, she is so dull she doesn't deserve the final.
