For a party that is so keen on grammar schools, they may want to get someone who can spell correctly the name of the constituency.

This also applies to the OP.

Result expected about 4 am. Things move very slowly in that neck of the woods.

Even without naming any places, the weirdest parts of the country and UKIP were made for eachother.

According to Director of Social Services in late 70's / early 80's Lincolnshire had the highest level of mental disability due to incest. Seriously I was sat at a Dinner with my parents and she came out with that gem.

Reports of 37% turnout.

Well it's a big rural seat - unlike Richmond park - so it will be a very long drive from some polling stations to the count.

It's fairly typical of a by-election, especially at this time of year as historically, December historically gets the lowest turn-out. Richmond was considered to be an exception, with an unusually high turn-out for a by-election.

I visied Sleaford recently. It has a nice canal but I got food poisoning from a pub meal and was made to feel really unwelcome as a a Scottish person.

Looking like a solid hold for the Tories with UKIP seemingly second but LDs also doing relatively well. ITV is speculating Labour could have come fifth despite being second in 2015 behind the popular local Lincolnshire independent candidate.

Compared to over 50% at Richmond Park...

Guess which constituency voted to take back control of our laws, sovereignty blah, blah.

It really doesn't take much effort to vote in an urban area in mid winter as your polling station is just round the corner. In rural Lincolnshire a lot of people have to travel some distance to do so - it's not at all comparable.

And look at how this by election has been almost totally ignored by the media compared to Richmond park which is just another illustration of the London centric obsession of the media. No wonder they were shocked by the events of 23 June - there is a big world outside the M25!

Is this being televised anywhere please?

Sky News - Paul Nuttal has just been interviewed.

Not much coverage from the BBC - a bit too far to drive from Islington perhaps.

Tory clear win UKIP definitely clear in second and Labour and Liberal anti Democrats neck and neck for third is the apparent result.

Ahh, thanks Marty. I just missed that.

I was wondering why the BBC aren't covering this one - Andrew Neil did last week. Not much in the way of live updates in the newspapers either, except for the Express. Strange.

It must be terrible to live in area where there is no electricity, roads or cars and no postal vote.

Richmond Park turnout at General Elections 76% in Sleaford and North Hykeham over 70%.

A constituency they voted for 'democracy' and taking back control and the first opportunity shunned democracy with a turnout less than 40%.

Last weeks result was quite quick, in a live feed on the BBC the reporter said the result isn't expected before 3am and as Andrew Neil said he needs his beauty sleep.

is it really necessary to look down on people who live in rural areas. Of course it makes a difference holding an election in mid winter in a rural area rather than an urban one.

Maybe people in Sleaford are happy with progress on Brexit so didn't feel the need to turnout whereas the sour pusses in Richmond who voted Lib Dum were just angry that for once in their lives they weren't getting their way?

Result is due by 3am so actually more efficient than Richmond given remoteness of some polling stations.

You are the one looking down on people who live in rural areas....attempting to paint them as cut off from the World with no means of transport or access to postal voting.

Why not accept all the arguments about taking back control, sovereignty etc has been blown out of the water with just a 37.1% turnout.

02.00AM UPDATE

Paul Nuttall has now arrived at the count.

Mr Nuttall appears to have conceded defeat for Ukip, claiming the party has come second, but that the election was “neck and neck”.

He says he would be "delighted with 2nd place".
