Incidentally, I read his autobiography and he won the Military Cross in the Royal Flying Corps in WW1, was one of the original management team that started the BBC in 1922, won an Oscar for the screen adaptation of Pygmalion (1938) and was a flying instructor in WW2, along with loads of other good stuff, i.e. Jobs with the Chinese government, the UN, The Daily Mail, etc., etc. An amazing man. |

No he's not. For someone who claims to hate OFAH, you seem an expert on it.
Bullying, belittling, Guilt Tripping happens IN EVERY EPISODE! |

Of course hes nasty in every episode!
Bullying, belittling, Guilt Tripping happens IN EVERY EPISODE! He had a sibling rivalry with Rodney. Of course he was going be to try to outdo him. You clearly haven't seen the episode Little Problems, where Del got beat up in order for him to get the £2,000 deposit for the flat, instead of giving it to the Drescoll Brothers. Del was only really nasty in 'A Royal Flush'. He was a loveable rogue most of the time. His heart was in the right place most of the time, as he helped Rodney and Albert. I'm more of a fan of OFAH then you are, so I can say that Del is not really a nasty person. He only winds Rodney up. |

I watched the premiere of never say never again followed by a duty free Christmas on itv. I must have been in a minority as 30 million viewers were watching eastenders! I recorded eastenders and fools and horses on my video recorder and watched them on Boxing Day.

If you still have that recording of Fools and Horses A Royal Flush from that day (even though that episode isnt OFAHs finest), and if it's in good nick and all complete, then I can imagine you would have a rare gem of a recording in your possession. That's because that first showing is likely to be the only fully uncut showing/release of that episode thats been seen. A Royal Flush is notorious for having been cut due to the dissatisfaction of John Sullivan, whom hated the way he made it.

The days when Xmas TV was a great experience. Love those old idents and previews; they have a certain charm and warmth about them, which is absent today. When TV was worth watching. This Xmas will be full of the usual rubbish recycled repeats from the previous week: repeats of Polar Express, James Bonds, The Mummy, Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Carry on films, etc, dreary hour long soaps and annoying celebs doing their Xmas specials. And rubbish like Mrs Browns Boys, Still Open all Hours, etc. They'll be the odd premiere film but that's about it, the rest will probably be the above mentioned.
There's a few Xmas TV I have on tape (still have, though not on VHS but Betamax), these include the Premiere showing (I think) on ITV of Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1984 (complete with the Granada announcer, adverts and ad bumpers). When they showed the film with the end credits not speeded up. I think it was relatively uncut too, though i think there was some slight cutting of the scene of Indy butting the Nazi's head on the steering wheel. I have a few recordings of the Mike Yarwood show Xmas show, probably around 1982. |

I have the original transmission on VHS and it's so much funnier than the cut version. The opera scene is twice as long without all the funny bits cut out. I only recently uploaded it to YouTube but those gits at BBC WW blocked it even after I credited it with necessary copyright. Eejits.

You must be watching a different show. Del wasn't nasty in every episode.

I love the old idents too, they seemed more kitsch and festive back then, when I see the xmas continuity from BBC in the 80s it really takes me back to my childhood, I can almost feel the excitement of waiting to see Mary Poppins, or One of our Dinosaurs is Missing. But that is the point I guess, Christmas is encased in nostalgia in a way. I love in those old continuities how much time they took to describe every programme on the lineup
so funny to us now, and no regional accents to be heard, just RP.

Christmas TV was better in the past. It's 95% junk in the schedule these days. They don't bother trying because of all the competition.

I was 8.. Don't remember much about that Christmas, apart from the box of delights. I watched it and all I remember was it being very weird indeed, and kind of creepy. Yet, I was still glued to it.

One of our Dinosaurs is Missing was pretty much on most Christmases. I remember watching it just to pass the time. The air of excitement as Christmas Day fast approached. Christmases in the 80s are some of the most nostalgic memories I have. Shame I can't recreate that feeling for myself now. lol. It just aint the same.

As you hate OFAH, I'll take your comments with a pinch of salt. Why do you care anyway as you always claim to hate it?

Why is there no 70s/80s/90s or 00s?
How? Some people behave like this in real life. Seen and known plenty of real life Del Boy's. http://ukchristmastv.weebly.com/ |

Wicked! Thanks. Fond memories from 96 to 2005... So was some of the late 80s. Some years I cannot even remember back then.Mmmm! Christmas 91, wasn't long 11. Batman 89 taping it on VHS Christmas Day. ![]() Quite unreal and how I had forgotton the channels closing down after 1:15am. I must be missing something but I could have sworn Masters of the Universe 1987 Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella film was on Christmas day or boxing day BBC1 early 90s. Cannot seem to find it. ![]() Used to tape it a lot. |
