I remember when we first had a TV in the early 1960s it was usual to wait in eagerness for the Christmas schedules to be released. Every year everything we wanted to watch clashed and that was in the days before VCRs. Choices had to be made and there were usually family members left disappointed.

These days with the capabilities of recording just about everything to avoid programme clashes, I find it difficult to find anything on Christmas Day we want to watch, never mind actually record anything.

If we want to see TV over Christmas I have plenty recorded and also access to "Catch-up" and "On Demand" so the TV planners can put on what crud they want over Christmas, it will not worry us at all.

TV has come a long was since the days of the 1960s as we sat huddled round our 14" black and white TV but at least then the TV companies made some sort of effort to provide decent viewable original programmes on at Christmas rather than dish out a few films that most people who wanted to see them had already done so. I wonder if there are many people have already seen "Frozen".

They're baking cakes for goodness sake. How is that entertainment? What next 'Hoover off', 'dust off'?
Get that idea copyrighted before it turns up on ITV

You're not watching the 'right' Netflix. Try another country's version.
Why would I want to watch foreign rubbish?

I'm sorry but did you actually read any of this before posting it? The big family film is over 30 years old and had been shown on TV a thousand times - and they say everybody's seen Frozen? The Two Ronnies was just another episode as was All Creatures Great and Small (the Call The Midwife of its day). Only Fools was at least Christmassy but just the usual half hour. Take out the now disgraced broadcasters and the many hours of quasi-religion and you'd hardly know it was Christmas! As for all the cheap and nasty ITV stuff .. well!!!

Yes, Treasure Island was over 30 years old which is why Superman would win out in that battle being only 5 years old (and personally I think I would have sulked over The Big Boy Scout clashing with Terry & his mob!)
This year, it will the Beeb again winning out for me only with Dr Who and, provided I've got the night off and they are new, WILTY & HIGABMNFY. Otherwise it will be Sky possibly, Netflix, Amazon & some shiny discs and if none of them appeal, I've always got my PS4 to occupy me!

Not sure what them being dead has to do with enjoying a program.

Id trade in this years programming with this awesome lineup.

I've tried the US version and I'm still not impressed. I've seen most of the good films and the shows are repeats or rubbish.

It's not just baking, it's the format, the hosts, the judges, the contestants and the feel of the show. It's a great show. Or it was on the BBC.

You couldn't even pay me to sit through soaps at Christmas. I don't need melodrama with my food and presents.

I looked in the TV magazine and ITV doesn't have a decent schedule the entire xmas week. They put no effort into things. BBC 1 at least put a bit of effort into it, but BBC 2 isn't looking strong and there's still not enough specials.
