Or Youtubing old shows.

We'll be out visiting friends and family for most of the day, so it will be whatever TV they have on the background if any. Ourselves we'll be back in time to watch Strictly and Call The Midwife but after that probably a couple of Blu-rays as nothing else really appeals.

We'll actually be watching more TV on Christmas Eve, well I will. Looking forward to a Channel 5 movie marathon of Dr Zhivago, The Vikings, Jason & The Argonauts and A Christmas Carol that day.

As I mentioned, a VERY poor line-up of programming on Christmas Day daytime on both BBC1 and ITV this year. Nothing of interest that my small family get together will want to watch. Or on the other channels either.

So it will be a line-up of programmes and two films via DVD during the daytime until 5:45pm when Doctor Who is on(and even the Christmas Doctor Who is not necessarily good every year, but we'll see what this year's is like).

Anyway, I've brought some new DVD's for the Christmas period. And this is the schedule I've come up with for my family's viewing during Christmas Day daytime.....

10:15am A Christmas Carol(1999 version with Patrick Stewart). Haven't actually watched this version myself in full. But I believe it's supposed to be pretty good, so should be worth a watch.

11:50am Little Dorrit The first three episodes of this Victorian era drama with Claire Foy from 2009. Never watched it when it was first shown on BBC1. But the reviews are good, and I like Victorian era drama. So looking forward to making a start watching this series.

1:50pm Top of the Pops NOT the Christmas Day episode that will be shown on BBC1 at this very time. But a DVD recording of two episodes from 1982 that will be shown this Friday on BBC4! The current Christmas Day Top of the Pops nowadays has been mostly rubbish for years now. The episodes from the 70's and 80's were so much better! So we'll all enjoy watching these two 1982 episodes much more than we would if we were watching the current Christmas Day Top of the Pops!(we started watching it last year, but switched off after 15 minutes as it was so bad we couldn't take any more of it!)

3:00pm Star Wars The Force Awakens Excellent film that I enjoyed watching at the cinema. Looking forward to watching it again on Christmas Day. This will be our big Christmas Day film. The animated film Frozen on BBC1 at 3:10pm is of no interest to us atall. So as usual since about 2003 now, it's a big film on DVD instead in the afternoon!

....................................

Anyone else planning on watching their own schedule of films, TV series via DVD instead of watching what's on TV?

For me, Christmas Day is family time, so will watch little TV. I will however watch Top of the Pops (I'm in the generation who will have already heard of the artists due to perform), and The Great Christmas Bake Off.

As family are then coming round for Xmas dinner, I will catch up on Doctor Who, Strictly, Mrs Brown's Boys, Emmerdale, Paul O'Grady: For the love of dogs and Coronation Street.

The Christmas schedules are awful as always. ITV in particular might as well turn off the transmitters for all 'the effort' they put into their output once the shops close.

The Queen and Doctor Who are the only two programmes I'll be interested in watching. Mid morning walk to my brother. Usually have something random on in the background whilst preparing and then eating dinner. Watch The Queen, pick a movie, watch Doctor Who, pick another movie. Walk home then clear a recording or two from my Sky box. Bed and then work Boxing Day is how my Christmas will play out this year.

BBC, ITV just seemed to have given up. I don't watch soaps.

Well that's fortunate because there is other programming bar soaps on ITV.

But it depends on what you like and don't. If you don't like drama, then you are stuffed.

ITV's Christmas Eve is stronger with Blankety Blank, Birds of a Feather and Grantchester

If you've never seen it then it is a fun way to spend the late afternoon. It's a good cartoon film and it fits with Christmas day.

I've seen ten minutes of Frozen. That's all I could take.

Out of the two, I'd go with BBC, however, like normal, apart from The Queen (I'm not a royalist, but it's just not Christmas without her speech!), I'll be watching Challenge!
