I guess the question, for Whovians at least, is whether the events of the past three seasons are now established parts of the Doctor's personal history - or simply present a divergence which can be ignored.
As far as I'm concerned, the Great Intelligence changed the Doctor's timeline and Clara simply changed it back. I think that created a point of divergence and so a parallel timeline but one that can be - and probably will be - ignored. I prefer to think that everything involving Clara after that was simply the Doctor's personal history retrospectively changing to accommodate her. But now she is gone everything is back as it was. I just don't think in years to come we'll be referencing the Hybrid as the reason the Doctor left Gallifrey or crediting Clara for the Doctor and Susan stealing that TARDIS.

Well, DS think there's enough interest on here at least, anyway. This place is getting "promoted to the Main Board" when the changes come in!

They do this every year whilst the show is going out, and for various other seasonal shows. The only reason there was a delay last time was because they'd laid off the techie staff who knew how to change things like that, and those who remained didn't know how!
Apparently the Emoji Cheetah People's days are numbered too. Their reaction: ![]() And an amnesty on banned users?! They can appeal, anyway, apparently. |

Maybe, but the announcement says the same about 'Football' being "promoted to the Main Board" too, which makes sense. So it might be about 'traffic', and I don't mean the Jacques Tati film.

Oh, I don't know anything about this. I thought you meant DS putting this forum on the main list when Chibnall's series starts.
The announcement also mentions a 'facebook' type thing where you can 'like' or 'dislike' posts, which sounds a bit naff. |

Because it was shown that she literally set The Doctor on the right path from the very beginning and that, without her, The Doctor would not be the man that we know now.
Considering that The Great Intelligence went back in time to mess up his life and she went in to stop The Great Intelligence, we would not have The Doctor as we know him, with all of his victories throughout the ages without Clara. But it does not happen in each and every single story. Especially it is not hinted at that it was one specific companion that has throughout all of time and space saved him in his adventures each and every single time. Way too far. I don't want to know about The Doctor's childhood; that take the mystery out of it for me. Companions should never interact with The Doctor as a child. And if she didn't inspire him that much, then why did he remember that particular phrase to help another child some thousands and thousands of years later. The scene as it was shown was implying that she made The Doctor the man that he is today. I disagree. The Doctor does nothing even remotely like this for any of his other companions. And, I am sorry, but nobody would ever do this for another being. And, if they did it, it would be for his wife, not a normal companion. The fact that The Doctor does all of that and saves Clara rather than his wife hacked me off to no end. He could have saved any one of his companions who died, the most important of which to him should be his wife, River Song, but, no, he saves Clara. Give me a break. Moffat has set the bar so high in terms of a companion's abilities, a companion's importance to The Doctor, a companion's hyper-competence and what The Doctor is willing to do in order to save a companion that no other companion can ever live up to it and every past companion and every future companion will simply pale in comparison. I am sorry, but what Moffat did with Clara was the height of ridiculousness and hyperbole. Four and a half Billion years. Give me a break. Which is a shame, because she is a fantastic actress, and the first outing in Asylum of the Daleks gave me great expectations for how she'd continue. |

If Chibnall doesn't shake the series up, it could lose interest.
We need a new Doctor/companion set up for Series 11, new titles, new TARDIS interior, mission statement, the lot and better marketing for the show. |

We have been somewhat spoiled since 2005 to have 3 so far - all distinctly different. the reasons for the change were unavoidable behind the scenes stuff every time. It wasnt changed on a whim or because they felt they needed a new one. The current set is impressive (especially if you've been lucky enough to visit it in Cardiff) but you can also see how its a large permanent standing set and must be very very expensive to build. The budget would be better spent elsewhere. Rumour has it we might see Missy's TARDIS but i doubt its as intricate or detailed as the Doctors one. Remember in the olden days.... it never really got changed at all.... pretty much the same apart from the secondary control room briefly seen. |

Wellll, who knows whether DS will still be around in 2018. Actually, did initially think the pinned announcement might be related to the forums being jacked in.

Moffat tried doing a Sherlock with the series and it just hasn't worked. He's making it very easy for the BBC to scale back, and just make a series of specials Missy IMHO is one of his biggest successes, She's just amazing character with brilliant scripts |

A waste of a very talented actress. Then again I feel the full potential of both Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi have been wasted in their respected era's. So fingers crossed for series 10. |

No pop up family, wooden boyfriend in an unrealistic romance or even being a nanny looking after badly realised kids could save the day in terms of making an idea for an arc come alive once the arc said idea was created for had played out.

This problem was x10 with Clara. Steven Moffat seemed to think all it takes is a 15 second montage of a leaf and Clara's parents for the audience to feel she is a fully fleshed out character and then emphasise with her. It was truly lazy writing, character-wise. So we then reach Heaven Sent, and the audience is supposed to be grieving with the Doctor for Clara's loss. And I'm sat there just hoping she really is dead. |

Losing interest no. But when there is a 9 month wait between series the tension just builds and builds.
The Christmas episodes really don't do it for me. But I am one of few who liked voyage of the damned. So the wait from the last series to this series is ridiculous. The only time I was losing interest was in the danny pink episodes. I absolutely hated that character. |

Entirely two-part episodes will fix everything!
In fact this trend for serials is surely a justification for mostly 3 or even 4 part stories. And maybe even a longer season run of 16 episodes. But how!? By having the Doctor vanish off screen for long periods of time and have the companion/guest actors lead an episode. ---------- The reason this can dramatically change the show is it sets it back to how it was pre-2005 and allows the viewing public to give a damn about the guest actors and to be pulled into the story. Stand-alone episodes were fun, for a time. But they are limited in what can be achieved and that limit has been reached (about 4 years ago) |

I will have an interest when the next season is on however lost a bit of interest during the hiatus. Not done any re watching since I put the season 9 DVD away a few months ago. Not even classic who. Power of the daleks is sat unwatched on the shelf. Feel I want to give it a break for a few years before re watching.

The trailer for this year's Christmas Special is doing nothing for me. I think it looks dire.

To be honest one reason why this place is slow is that a lot of people have bailed out of here because of continual boring negativity from certain people in here.
I no longer even bother with any episode thread and only dip in here every couple of weeks to see if there are any interesting threads - which there very rarely are. To put it into context, like most, I have a boring job that I would happily quit tomorrow if I could, the world is going to hell in a handcart besides. And yet with tv etc I have the chance to just enjoy something uncritically. I don't have to assess whether it is a con after my money or which leader will screw our country up the least. It is sit down and let the story take me where it takes me. And to do that it is avoiding bores who tell me after five minutes an episode is rubbish or it is not as good as it was in the old days. You want this place to pick up then stop being boring. |
