I can't believe that people on here are using a dreadful crime to score cheap points.
Virtually the only media outlets in Europe covering this story in detail are the right wing British press (which is very telling).

The German coverage is much more restrained, even in tabloids like Bild.

Because the left-wing media would rather inidents like this are kept under wraps as much as possible.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Horrific incidents like this happen every day of the week in one country or another and are committed by all sorts of people. It's a bit reckless of the press to highlight the nationality, religion and migrant status of the killer when there would be numerous examples of people being randomly sexually assaulted or murdered by their fellow citizens.

So the massive rise in sexual assaults in Germany and Sweden are just a bit of a coincidence.

The random murder of a Polish migrant worker in Harlow in the summer is the sort of unfortunate murder that "happen every day" But it didn't stop certain sections of the liberal media linking it to Brexit.
What's goose for the gander.....

If that poor girl in Gemany had been murdered by an Afghan migrant because of her nationality or religion, then it would certainly be legitimate for the press to highlight the case but it seems the motive was sexual or one of sexual violence. German police are still investigating whether the victim and assailant actually knew each other.

If you invite a million people in who come from regressive and savage societies then you're asking for trouble.

The point would be that horrible crimes are committed against people every day of the week, including numerous sexual assaults. Seizing on a specific horrific rape and murder case because of the nationality of the assailant is perhaps not very helpful (especially given that Germany is a nation of 80m people).

You have missed the point. The big news for the last year is that there have been many calls that the policy adopted by Merkel would increase the risk for the women of Germany to just such crimes due to many factors largely down to the cultures from which the migrants came. It took what five days for Cologne to come to light and similar crimes in Sweden and Germany have been slow to surface. Yet the Guardian is in the forefront for attacks by German neo Nazis on migrants being reported.

What happened in Cologne on New Year's Eve was outrageous and definitely deserved to be given maximum publicity (which it was in fact....eventually).

This current case is slightly more problematic though. Random sexual assaults and murders happen frequently alas and are commited by all types of people.....some would ask why highlight this murder case but not a similar one carried out by a German citizen.

Because it is an incident in a very newsworthy series of events. It is also an incident that highlights what has been one of the cornerstones of the opposition to the open door migration policy in that it increases the danger to the female citizens of the host nation irrespective of the actual motive or the 'randomness' of the crime.
As trunkster pointed out above any hate crime reported, perceived or even invented has been reported as an indication of the normalising of hate and down to the insidious nature of the debate during Brexit. Well inviting a mass of 1 million plus to enter the country because they were trying to force the door open was widely expected to cause problems, and it has. Denying it downplaying it or ignoring it does not make the news news it makes it propaganda.

a google search shows it's being covered in Holland and Scandinavia by mainstream media, in Italy, and Eastern Europe and the USA. And by ZDF in Germany, a top TV station. But it's conspicuous by its absence from ARD, the other main news channel in Germany, and the German press in general. That is no surprise.

We're talking about a country of 80 million people though. In a country of that size, terrible things will happen to people quite regularly. Even if Germany was to forcibly repatriate every single refugee or asylum seeker tomorrow morning, rapes and murders would carry on apace in the country, so I'm not entirely sure where the right wing press are going with this one.

In the English language, the bulk of the reports seem to be from the British right wing press. Other English speaking countries like Ireland, USA, Canada and Australia appear to have taken their cue from this initial British coverage. It should be pointed out too that these other countries have reported it in a more factual manner, merely saying the murder has caused debate and some controversy in Germany but the British coverage has been a bit 'livelier' and more opinion based.

Seven pages and counting (predictably) of smoke, mirrors, and general all-purpose fudgery. We've been to Rotherham, Thailand, and back to Rotherham.

The fact is that Germany's 'everyone in' policy was a half-assed and reckless decision that gave massively disproportionate entry to young foreign males. Factor in that these were from places not generally known for their enlightened views re gender equality and it's clear that Frau Merkel was taking a huge gamble on behalf of every young German female.

Yes it was tough times and something had to be done, still no reason to take the (criminally) negligent decision she did. Now every incident of this sort - and be under no illusion this will be the last - bears witness to that negligence.

That, my 'But Germans can be bad people too' friends, is why this is bigger than the domestic incident down the road that the DM, eg, chose not to devote its column inches to.

Merkel may not have raped and drowned that girl but she would have known such events were the inevitable consequence of open door. For that reason, imo, she's as guilty as if she had been there holding her down.

Yes, more Afghans raping. No doubt they lied about their age too and will get 6 months because they'll be treated as under 18s.

As for previous comments, yes rapes and murders are committed every day but that doesn't excuse the fact that they're committed at a much higher rate by people from certain countries.

What percentage of over 4 million Muslims in Germany or over 1 million refugees in Germany are rapists and murderers that incidents can be used to tar the lot of them as a threat and justify restrictions.

The problem is the focus on Muslims is reminiscent of the focus on the predatory Jewish rapists and child molesters in 1920s and 1930s Germany. Were there Jewish criminals yes, were they indicative of Jews in general being a threat no.

When you have over a million people or many millions of people its going to be possible to highlight a criminal from that group everyday not because they are the norm in that group but because that group is so large that even a tiny percentage or fraction of a percent is a huge number of individuals.

Politicians in most of the EU seem to think their own citizens being raped and murdered by people who should not even be in their countries is a price worth to pay for all the virtue signalling. I for one don't.

So what's the alternative? Ban all immigration?

It is not that there are criminals and rapists in this group that would be true for any large group of Humans. It is the foreseeable problem with the demographics of this particular group.

They are largely young males. Germany has completed disrupted its gender ratio in this age group by allowing such numbers in en masse

. Where are these young men going to find sexual partners? They are hardly likely to be seen as an attractive prospect by the available German, educated, free thinking women and as a demographic, women in this age group are now very much a minority.

So what do the males do, stay celibate?

The other point is is that a large proportion of males are coming from cultures where the males rule supreme and females are submissive to them. Even if they come from dire poverty and dictatorships there is one half of humanity they are superior to and have power over and that is females.

They now are in a society with little access to sexual partners, they find themselves in shelters and other places which are quite often being run by females, who are directing them not the reverse. Say they did get a job in a service industry, they will be serving women a lot of the time, at their beck and call.

Can you see a problem with this, can you see the inevitable resentment that is going to emerge as these young men, go home to live with their peers and discuss things?

How do you think their feelings are going to affect their actions?

All this must have been known to Merkel et al it is not rocket science. Obviously some folk already in German society were going to have suffer the consequences, sacrificed for the greater 'good?!'
