Why do the BBC continue to pretend the dance off is on the day after the programme on Saturday?
It's an insult to the viewers intelligence
Just say the programme is recorded and results will be shown the day after

There is no explanation, there is no reason, no one knows. And I doubt many care these days, no one is fooled. Let's just chill and laugh at the fakery.

They don't pretend that it on the Sunday. They don't say it is live. Like every other programme that is prerecorded to be shown on a particular day of broadcast, it refers to the day of broadcast.

Do you object to the Strictly crew wishing everyone merry Christmas in the Xmas special too? I hate to break it to you but that isn't recorded at Christmas either!

I always think anyone who believes that this is 'an insult to their intelligence' must have a pretty fragile ego.

The big nasty BBC aren't trying to get one over on the public and laughing maniacally at their ability to fool the plebs. They're recording a show in the context of when their viewers will be actually watching it.

My intelligence is insulted by moaning about something that has been established for years.

Because there are still people like my dear old mum and stepmum that think it's live on Sunday and who I have not given the red pill to because I prefer to let them dream. Plus much more fun to predict the bottom two and have them amazed at my awesomeness (get it wrong on occasion to keep it believable ).

I am now officially thick though and had to google eschatology. At least I didn't mix it up with scatology. The Houdini comment made this thread worth opening though, applause.

Then there is Jools Hootenanny. If you buy a newspaper over Christmas then most of it was prepared beforehand just like the news programmes on TV and radio.

Why do the presenters an judges change their outfits and do we pay for these outfits ?

I don't care that it's recorded and shown on a Sunday, but what I do object to is them pretending it's recorded on a Sunday, with their talk of "last night", or "on Saturday night" etc. Why can't they just say something on the lines of when you did your dance?

When we watch the results show on Sunday night, it is correct that their dance in the main show was 'last night'? It is recorded in the context of when it is going to be broadcast. That isn't a pretence, it is a reflection of reality. What I don't understand is, why does it matter so much to you. What difference would it make to your life if they said something on the lines of 'when you did your dance'? You could argue that, on the basis that it is recorded on the Saturday, Tess should actually say 'when you did your dance earlier this evening' except, as it is being broadcast on Sunday, that would sound silly.

I always wonder how anyone could possibly believe it's live! Doesn't take a genius to spot that the people in the front row are the same and in the same clothes for both shows, or even more obviously that the floor is miraculously cleared of confetti in two seconds flat after the end of the pro number...

Of course they aren't pretending it's live - at the end of every single results show now they show everyone in the middle of the dancefloor commiserating and celebrating with the eliminated couple and then two seconds later show the remaining couples in the audience talking about next week's show. Anybody still pretending that they're being "lied to" is quite deliberately looking to take offence and have a baseless whinge.

I'm more interested in why, when someone asks a perfectly normal question, the majority of posters go into meltdown and act like complete twats?

But it's a not a perfectly normal question, it's a really really old question that has been done to death over the years.
