Now, there was a truly professional performance.

Outstanding!

Makes a pleasant change to have the singer distract us from the dancers.

Awful, mind you I didn't like her when she could still sing.. Enjoyed Nat & Aljaz though.

I didn't enjoy it, she pushed it too hard in places and her tuning was quite iffy too.

When she first sang this song (many years ago), she had a wonderful voice and could hold a note.

Tonight she talked most of the song rather than sang and her voice broke so many times it was embarrassing.

I loved listening to her when she was younger but it is so sad when aging stars try to make a come back and fail. It's like an Olympic athlete trying to make a comeback 20 years later.

Loved it and that isn't even a kind of music I like. Her voice is gone, or it's going, but it was a fantastic performance. She put the story first and that, my friendsy friends , is what music or acting or any of that stuff is for. She made me listen anyway...

I've always found her too nasal for my liking, but tonight her voice was really off. Always preferred Julie Covington's version anyway.

Sorry!

Spot on. She recognised changes in her voice and told the story as a musical actress. Really enjoyed what I could hear through the whooping

Very ugly top note on "never"
And some ugly words.
No professional should pronounce "dear" as "deeeyaaah."
At least she was mainly in tune, but she IS a professional, and thats the very least I look for.
Some properly baritone chest notes made me smile.

There's a bit in Toscanini's great Verdi Requiem (the one where you can hear Toscanini shouting Forza! in the Dies Irae), where Di Stefano's voice cracks as he sings the Hostias. It breaks my heart every time, and more than a perfect performance could ever have done.

Not saying this is that. Obvs!

Just saying sometimes weakness is a good thing in disguise.

So, y'know, there's hope for all of us...

Agree - she was pitchy as all get out and the overdone "throwaway" notes at the end of every line that demanded a strong finish made the whole performance amateurish. I have liked her for a long time, but this one deserved a "3" from me. Ghastly.

If she was a 3 then Jim Kerr would have been minus 93

It was far from her best performance, sadly.

I think people are being tad unkind. She is older and adapted the song. I am much much younger than her and cant sing as well as her. I liked the way she spoke in some parts. Having said that I prefer Madonna's verson (not her fan though) but I doubt if she too can sing it well anymore.
