She used to be spectacular, but she just doesn't have the voice any more. It was sad to see.

She always sounds half cut on her radio show, I think she has new teeth & they're hindering what was once a mighty voice

watching many older singers remind me of watching the golfers of yester year walk up the 18th fairway in a major championship (Tom Watson at the Open excepted) You clap and cheer wildly for what they have achieved but a piece of you is sad they have spent the previous 17 holes not having a great time of it.

Last night was one of those moments-she has had a great career but maybe time to leave the stage in more ways than one

Some people, especially in the professions talked about here, do not have rock solid pension schemes and have to work as long as their audiences are still there. A lot of people just want a chance to see their idols and the idols are paid to just turn up in some cases to bring the crowds in. Suits everybody.

At first, I was sure everyone was exaggerating... then I watched it.
She truly was awful.

It's such a shame when people don't realise when it's time to stop.

Celebs really need a best friend to tell them when it is time to retire.

I've never forgotten Julie Covington's version of the song. Absolutel beautiful. Have never rated Elaine Paige's voice or interpretation skills highly whichever song she was singing. Age affects voice of course but some over seventies still sound pretty good - eg Placido Domingo, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones to name a few. They can't sing quite as they used to but it's still, fine.

I think that trotting Elaine Paige out was a big mistake. Many people loved her singing for years but that performance was a sad thing to see.

@stockingfiller.

Totally agree.

Now if you want an over 70s singer, try Ringo Starr.....incredible.

I'm old enough to remember being sad to hear that Julie Covington wasn't in Evita.

Didn't Elaine Paige have problems with her voice when Evita began? I went to see the original cast and came away with a crush on David Essex!

We still have the Julie Covington version on the Evita LP, the one in the white cover with Evita written on it.
I played Julies version last night which is on You Tube, her diction is magic and so pure, made me fill up it was so beautiful.

Ringo now looks years younger than his own son........and I doubt that surgery has been involved.

She's been terrible since the nose job. She can't breathe through it.

new nose and teeth, and some work done, wheres Elaine, has she left the building. She is said to be very difficult to get on with, and not very nice at all, she said she had no time for marriage with her career but found 12 years of time for her married beau Tim Rice, nice wee woman...........http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ings-duet.html

At 76, Ringo is singing just as good as when he was 26 if not stronger. He looks in his 50s and is amazing.

Now if he were singing on SCD it would be well worth watching.

Very ugly top note on "never"
And some ugly words.
No professional should pronounce "dear" as "deeeyaaah."
At least she was mainly in tune, but she IS a professional, and thats the very least I look for.
Some properly baritone chest notes made me smile.

"thats the very least I look for"

Are you a teacher / singer?

I think that Paul's problem is that he used to have an excellent range - falsetto down to baritone and lots of the songs requiire that range still but like everyone else, his voice has ' dropped' and he now can't get many of the high notes.

Many singers can pick songs better suited to their older voice but he's expected to sing the old favourites. Should he ? I think he should because he's still fantastic at getting an audience excited and happy plus only a few, notes/ songs sound a bit ropey.

Had he been a mediocre singer with a small range he couldn't have sung as he did. He still sounds great if something is right for his voice as it is now, eg ' My Valentine'.
