Maybe if the group cha cha hadn't taken place, Ed and Katya would have been in the final.

So what does not mean they had any previous training. Pretty sure Austin Healy did not and he got a 9 in his first week.
No, but it does mean they were fairly proficient from the off.

It seems he has forgotten his stint on 'Let's Dance for Comic Relief'.
One dance routine three and a half years ago? The filthy dirty ringah!!!

Well that could mean anything natural talent, good teaching hard work or just a dance that suited them.. Both Sophie and Susanna had poor weeks as well as good weeks

And so have most of the designated 'ringers'.

Darren Gough aside, no winner to date has journied higher up the leader board than from 4th place on week one. It just seems, to me, that the none-dancing journey is a bit of a non sequitur.

Both Claudia and Ore have made good progress and it wouldnt be too bad if either of them won IMO.

May be like Craig said "Celebs when they know they are coming on Strictly are taking dance lessons." I don't think Greg and Claudia would have had time to do that.

I do love that the title of this thread makes it sound like a lost and forgotten country that can never return.

"The beginners are going out all over Strictly. We shall not see them win again in our lifetime."

Oh do give the word ringer a rest. It is so tedious. It's becoming so that anybody who has ever put one front infront of the other is called a ringer. At least fifty percent of SCD contestants come from the entertainment world and it stands to reason that in their professional lives they will at some time probably have had to dance.

I for one do not want to see fifteen left-footed contestants plod their way through weeks of grindingly dull dancing.
^^^^^^^^.

I really don't understand the obsession with " journey " on this show. I really don't

Why does a " beginner " absolutely need to make it till the end Like someone else mentioned it's extremely difficult to see complete novices in the entertainment world because a lot of them do either stage schools or take dance classes quite early on.

The best dancer doesn't always win this show. Be a ringer actually works against them a lot of time. If Claudia makes it to the finals, she has a better chance of winning than Danny imo.

I can't help but think that this thread is another variation of " Danny is a ringer " thread.
More entertaining to watch perhaps. Its not just Danny, Louise is a just boring to watch for me. Just personal preference,

if Ore makes final then yes
Is he not at the same stage as he was at the start though?. He started off good and hasn't really improved ... if anything he peaked earlier on.
People talk about the journey with 'beginners' ... he hasn't had one, not really.

If you rule out anyone who has ever danced in any form before there will be no more actors, singers or entertainers in the competition. I like seeing all abilities and don't want 12 weeks of people with just basic talent.

It is Darren Gough's fault - he went on and on and on and on and on and on about how he was on such a journey and how he had never danced before and, oh did I mention that I was on a journey and that I've never danced before....

Is he really a beginner though?
he's said he is and over the weeks there have been things he obviously couldn't do so well - he doesn't seem to have great hip action for example. I think he's just a gifted showman who picked up the footwork quickly - he has a epitude for the ballroom, the jive and some nice postitioning of limbs but he's a gifted amateur nothing we've seen suggests otherwise.

I don't want to rule people out just because of anything - this competition wouldn't have been the same without either Danny or Ed or most of the people in it - I'm not fussed about Louise but she did do a good AT.

Yes, this would be ideal. Journey stories of 2 non-dancers who become good dancers rather than the 2 professionally trained stage school ringers who were near enough perfect from the start.
When did Ore get his first 10's ... was it week 4!!? Journey my foot!!

BIB: Wicked has no dancing in it? That's unusual, most West End musicals have a fair few chorus numbers in them

I think this subject came up on another thread a couple of weeks ago, and posters who had been to see Wicked said that the understudy role would still have had to take part in ensemble dances, of which there were quite a few. Sure, it's not ballroom and latin dancing, but I can't see how anyone can deny that four years on the West End stage haven't given Danny a huge advantage.

I think my votes will be going to Claudia now, in an effort to get at least one genuine non-ringer into the final
Well the role he understudied didn't have dancing. But if he was a part of the bigger chorus, the dances are still not what he's been doing on strictly. I can do the macarena and the cha-cha slide, doesn't mean I can jive! The things like the Paso, the holds for the different dances and the actual steps and lifts are all stuff he's had to learn.

Louise did dancing at italia Conte as a kid as part of lessons, music and acting and finished when she was 15 years old.

Danny went to dance college has learnt far more than basic steps which has been obvious from week one
Louise and Danny are on par as far as I'm concerned. They both done acting and dancing at school/college and have both had experience performing in front of audiences and I'm pretty sure Louise has also learnt far more than basic steps.

Anyway, not that it matters to me. I think all of the remaining contestants are great and should be commended for the amount of time and effort they put in to training every week instead of being slated for having any sort of dance experience.

only Ore and Claudia have not had training though some ballet is included with gym training but not intennsive just some steps to help with balance
Lol you just answred my question... maybe next time I will read the thread first...

It's an entertainment show and I want to be entertained!
It's an entertainment show about dance so I want to see dancing. If I wanted to see comedy and acting at the expense of the dancing I'd go to the theatre.

All of the celebs are beginners in Latin and ballroom, that's all that matters, and there isn't even really a rule in that respect, as some people have done specials before the main show. A whole show full of complete non-dancers would be dreadful.

At the end of the day, to a large extent after Blackpool the difference is caused by how much people train. Funny how the person so many people cry foul against because he went to stage school and has done some dancing on stage is the one who seems to be doing the most training...

Is he really a beginner though?
It's been repeated by Ore/Jo/Zoe that he is pretty much every week on ITT.

It seems he has forgotten his stint on 'Let's Dance for Comic Relief'.
And of course that show turned out a load of highly proficient, trained celebrity dancers: Tim Vine, Katherine Ryan, Jodie Prenger, Ricky Hatton, Miles Jupp, etc etc All now brilliant dancers...

What are you implying? Do you have information to the contrary?
I blame James Jordan: tweeting very loudly that "he'd obviously had training" but then suspiciously silent when Ore tweeted back that he really hadn't.
