Your top 3 games of 2016
Its that time of year again as 2016 draws to a close most places are busy considering their favourite games of the year. There have been some stellar titles like Uncharted 4, Forza Horizon 3, Bafftlefield 1 to Dark Souls 3.
In no particular order, what are your top 3 games of 2016? For Me 1. Uncharted 4, this for me has been amongst the standout single player title for me, the sheer level of art and detail is something I haven't even witnessed on a PC before. The addition of the rope into play certainly offered a wee bit more depth to the level design. My only qualm is the ending was a bit meh considering it was supposed to be Nathan Drake's swansong. 2. Doom, love this game, I didn't buy it on release and got it at a knock down price in October. The level design and the weapons, gameplay do very much remind me of the original 2 games. Its very fast and frenetic, has a great online mode too. Certainly a dark horse in terms of FPS this year. 3. Battlefield 1, primarily because they didn't go for the jugular like COD and went for a different time period. The setting is epic, much more gritty than any FPS I have played in the last 10 years. The level and weapon dersign are very accurate relative to the timeline. Weapons feel measured, they are not subject to significant modification which keeps online multiplayer balanced. The graphics are on another level. The game itself feels authentic and crucially captivating. What are yours? |

I've still got Titanfall 2 to play yet, and I'm waiting to see how The Last Guardian turns out, so I'll name my top 3 a bit later on.

Yeah, doom took a while to get going but when everything came together it was great fun.
1. Blue Revolver 2. Overwatch 3. Leap of Fate Special mentions for Stardew Valley and Killing Floor 2. Sorry, I don't have time to go into detail about each game. I'll update my post later if I think on. Edit: Actually, this forum has a time limit doesn't it? I'll post again if I get time. |

I spent a lot of time playing re-released games (Uncharted Collection, Return to Arkham), catching up on 2015's releases and just playing Pro Evo and my golf game, so I can't really give a top 3 either.
Come to think of it i'm not sure if I bought a single game that was released this year . . . . |

1. Uncharted 4
2. Final Fantasy XV(currently placed 2nd, as i'm only on chapter 2. 3. N/A I've bought Shadow of the Beast and Alienation day one. But won't put them in my list as only short digital games. So this year alone only 4 'new games' Excluding Resident Evil Origins. |

All on PS4 this year, nothing on Vita, PS3 or PC for me.
Uncharted 4 Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Battlefield 1 Honorable mentions go to Doom, ABZU and Shadow Complex Remastered. I haven't touched Inside or FFXV yet and I think I have to get The Last Guardian which wasn't on my radar. |

PES 2017 - My favourite football game series and this years version just about has enough improvements to make it one of my faves.
Cossacks 3 - A nice traditional RTS game, simple, yet addictive. Day of the Tentacle Remastered - Had the original of this for years but never managed to finish it, then I got the remastered version and finally managed to clear it without looking up any hints. |

2016 has been a weird year for games. I can't think of one game that stands out.
Since I bought my PS4 I've hardly bought any games for it. I think I own fewer than 10 boxed games. During a similar period with my PS3 I must have bought over 30 at least. |

Quite a bad year imo. I'm struggling to even list 3 games worthy of the praise.
1) Uncharted 4 - Perhaps the best in the series. Naughty dog are by far the best developer of the genre and there were some nice nods to their previous titles in this game. *Massive Gap* 2) Pokemon go - Despite having so much wrong with pretty much every aspect of the game, I had a fun month or so during the summer reminiscing about my favourite series as a kid. Actually I'm not even going to list a third. |

1. Hitman
This game has been amazing, I was unsure on the episodic release however it was brilliant. It gave me time to appreciate each level and they kept things fresh with the live content. I just wish I had the time to do all the elusive targets. 2. Pokemon Sun I'm not even halfway through this game and I'm loving it, the riding pokemon are just epic. 3. Dark Souls 3 This was fantastic and I wish I had the time to put more hours into different characters and playing through it multiple times. Still need to try the DLC. Special mention to FFXV too as I'm loving it but only on chapter 3. I need more hours in m day!!!! |

To be honest I wasn't overly enamoured with the majority of AAA releases this year, a lot of them I thought were quite repetitive (Overwatch) or just not that fun (Battlefield One) but that having been said my favourite 3 of the year were...
1. Dark Souls 3 I liked the original Dark Souls but I could never beat it. I found Dark Souls 2 incredibly boring, but then Bloodborne reignited my love for the Souls' franchise despite myself also not being able to complete that game. So I picked up Dark Souls 3 just for the fun but accepting that the chances of me completing the game were slim. For me, Dark Souls 3 took everything good about Dark Souls 1 and 2, threw in hints of Bloodborne in there, and combined the lot of them to make an awesome, awesome game. When I think back to gaming this year Dark Souls 3 is the game that sticks out in my mind as the game I spent the most time with, and despite 1 or 2 bosses being totally unfair *cough* that damn guy and his pet dragon *cough*, I thought for the most part the game was tough but fair, and when I actually finally completed a Souls game I felt more accomplished than anything else gaming wise in a long time. 2. Uncharted 4 Now here's the thing; if you had asked me for my opinion on the Uncharted franchise before Uncharted 4 came out, I would have said it was okay, but Naughty Dog's worst, because in comparison to Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter and even The Last of Us it just wasn't as fun as the former 2 or as emotional as the latter, it was good but never amazing, at least not to me. So imagine my surprise when Uncharted 4 brings both fun scenes and really emotional scenes to the Uncharted franchise with this game. I loved the story, enjoyed the new characters, really dug the improved graphics and the slight-open world mechanics, but then that ending scene alone will stick with me for a long time and really cemented this game as one of the best of the year, it was an absolute perfect ending and really heightened the franchise as a whole imo. 3. Superhot Superhot is a damn genius game. I just love the basic concept of it. Superhot is a game where you shoot people and you have very limited ammo so you have to make your shots really count, the twist is that time only moves when you move, so everything is super slowed down unless you decide to be an idiot and sprint about which will almost instantly get you killed. The fact that the game is played almost entirely in slow motion isn't tedious though, it brings a tactical element to the gameplay and really creates it's own unique gameplay mechanic. 10/10 did love - but it was all too brief ![]() Honorary mentions: 1. The Witness - Brilliant little puzzle game that really pushed me and my friends to the limits, spent lots of nights trying to figure out each puzzle as a group, was great fun. 2. Ratchet + Clank - One of the most colourful and downright fun games of the PS4, but not necessarily the series' best and also felt just a smidge too short. 3. DOOM - Great, great fun. Shooting demons, that's all it is. But it does what it sets out to do very well. A rocky start to be honest made me wonder if this game was even good at all but the more I played the more it's charm started to have an effect and by the time I completed it I had to platinum it as it was that much fun. |
