A Muslim-owned restaurant in London is offering a three-course meal to homeless and elderly people on Christmas Day so that “no one eats alone”.

Shish Restaurant, in Sidcup, is asking local residents to spread the word of its offer and has put up posters saying “We are here to sit with you” on 25 December.

The restaurant urged people to share its plan through social media - where the initiative was widely praised.

Probably a trap.

No?

Someone has to have a link to a trap/christmas cancelled...

Waiting for the first complaint of 'they wouldn't say if it was Christian owned so why mention that it's Muslim owned'

Plenty of people and businesses and churches and restaurants do charitable works at Christmas and offer free food or lodging to the homeless.

So why is this particular restaurant worthy of national newspaper coverage?

Surely the local paper would be sufficient so locals who might be in need know about it

Plenty of people get murdered across the world but we still have a thread and national news coverage about an EU officials daughter getting murdered by a migrant in Germany.

It was an EU directive.

It was decided that when they would describe grooming gangs as Muslim grooming gangs they would have to balance it out with Muslim restaurants.

Luckily, Brexit will take care of that!!

Yeeehaaaa!

It's quite local to me and has been shared on Facebook locally for several weeks.

Whilst I applaud their good intentions a bit of free decent publicity never hurts. And really, Wtf the religion has to do with it I don't know?

That's very kind indeed. They could well be British born though, not foreign.

Given that the story and picture has been lifted directly from Facebook with no direct quotes I would go so far as to suggest assumptions have been made with no facts checked.

You could always ring up and double check if you don't think the story is true?

Well done to them for their charitable offer.
Also well done to everyone from whatever faith or none at all who give their time and their money and their empathy to folk in need at Christmas time.
Strange how the mention of muslim in a positive story is seen by some to be a "bad thing" but then again you can see why they are upset because it helps dismiss the myth that they spread that everything about Muslims is negative.

Strange also how some people are so keen to promote it purely based on the religion of the people involved. Strange how those same people wouldn't do so if it wasn't for the religion of the people involved. So many strange factors.

For years the rw media in this country have been falling over themselves to portray muslims in a negative light and to keep the levels of outrage and fear high amongst their readers.
I am only too happy to promote in any small way anything that redressed the balance and shows that all muslims are not monsters and are happy to care and share.
If this story annoys the haters and gets under their skin then that's just an added bonus.
Merry Christmas

Maybe because, the churches, restaurants & businesses you mention (particularly the churches!) are Christian based, are celebrating a Christian tradition & holiday period and being generous because of the particular celebration they celebrating!
The owners of this restaurant have no link the celebration at all & as such have no reason to anything special for it at all, in fact it's probably costs them money as the demand for their foods on that day plummets.
By doing this they not only get a huge amount of goodwill & publicity for themselves but also are able to portray their own belief system in that way that it should be which is that of a peace & generous one, rather than a murderous one which it is often only portrayed as.

Very generous of them and I congratulate but why the emphasis on it being Muslim owned when there's absolutely no mention of that on the facebook page. It's a Turkish restaurant like any other.

I hope all who eat there enjoy the day which I'm sure they will anyway

I'm just saying they have lifted the story directly from Facebook where the religion of the owners doesn't come into it.

I think you rather miss the point. In a climate where we are led to believe all Muslims are dangerous radicals, who disrespect our culture and our ways, the fact that they are culturally and religiously 'the other' is why it is a news story.

Why can't they just be given a bit of credit for a kind and charitable act?
