Rebecca has released in my opinion three of the best studio albums to ever come out of X Factor, not just that just brilliant records each one full of class.

So why is Rebecca not as big as Emeli Sande/Adele?

Perhaps the whole Modest Management situation portrayed her badly?
She's bit of a boring performer, sings very well, but very static and not moving
Lack of personality? She's not interesting - far too 'nice'
Live shows? Regularly turning up late ?


Either way she had a hugely successful debut album that was very very good. She should be selling millions of record! Her album 'Superwoman' is perhaps in my opinion the most underrated of the year, brilliant song writing, a strong message...why isn't it selling in droves?

Who made the decision to go with Bones first! Why didn't she get an XF slot like Olly does every year, four albums on she's more than proven herself.

I think she should have done Superwoman with an X Factor performance, then Stars/Oceans and then Without A Woman. That album is full of hits not to mention Pay For It and Mistress. Easily album of the year for me

Think if sales don't improve that'll be her last album with Sony as Syco don't care about anyone who sells less than 1 million copies

I've seen none.

This is not necessarily a bad ending, several artists I now follow have been dropped by their label (or the label closed down) and the artists are producing some of their best stuff

Now able to release and sell directly to their fans they become a lot more approachable and no-longer have a label telling them what they should be doing

Isn't this her third album on a major label? She's done really well to get this far

I don't think the latest album has been as well publicised as the earlier works nor was 'Bones' the strongest of singles - 'Oceans' or 'Superwoman' are better for example . Rebecca has a great soulful voice and does soulful music, she's probably a bit too street cred for current tastes.

It's actually her 4th album.

'Stars' should have been released as the first single from her current album, instead of 'Bones'

Hardly anyone sells 1m copies of anything these days.

Just because she isn't in your face every 5 minutes doesn't mean she is a flop. She has been in the music industry for 5 years

I agree with the OP that she is criminally underrated. She will have at least one more album for her label as she signed an extension with them for two more albums after she released Lady Sings The Blues.

I hadn't heard that before but I like it.

Loads of artists flop in the singles chart. Robbie Williams last two singles flopped. It's the way it goes in the streaming era. If an artist can have decent/good album sales that's good enough.

I'm not sure who her market is as, despite being marketed as a soul/jazz singer, she hasn't been embraced by fans of those genres particularly.
I only listen to soul radio stations and constantly attend soul music events and I've never heard any of her music played.

Even though you have spoken and decided that your music taste trumps everyone elses.

Seems those with real voices flop, while those who rely on auto tune seem to succeed.

If that's so that'll be great...however it'll be dependant on sales but i think with such low sales she'd be almost definitely dropped. I'm a huge fan but i know that Sony craves sales. The reason why she got this third studio album, was the last album was considered a one-off flop as it was a covers album and she was expected to do with original album. Freedom was exceptional, however the promo cut short due to her being pregnant and sold 140k+ which was alright...

She is up there with Emeli, Adele, and the female greats, actually being from XF is a dis service to her! Rebecca Ferguson is like Will Young for me, they produce brilliant albums, always.

But the album really isn't selling either...

Current music isn't in for her kind of music.

But Lady Sings the Blues was not a straightforward covers album. RCA approached her to celebrate Billy Holidays music.
I do think she is underrated though. She is still doing well though not as in your face as some.
I personally don't understand why singers have to have great productions and backing dancers not to be called boring.

I think that Rebecca along with Aiden Grimshaw are two the most underrated X Factor artists ever. I have everything both have put out and Rebecca exels every time.
