Which radio stations have closed down in 2016 you like most on DAB , FM , AM or on line?
I cannot think but it would be interesting to see how many have closed down. |

Juice FM, replaced the absolute shite capital.
Juice was profitable and almost fully local but we can't have that these days can we. |

Oak FM closed but a new station has taken its place. Magic Soul Summer and Magic Abba closed earlier but they were only temporary.

Radio 538 definitely and now it's been replaced with a very annoying tone that would annoy anyone.

I'm not sure it was all that profitable really. It would have been expensive to run.

They sold Juice to recover some of the millions lost on their new UTV Ireland TV channel which didn't meet expectations.
Back in 2005, Juice was owned by Forever Broadcasting. That group was sold to The Wireless Group, at the time headed by Kelvin McKenzie. Juice was sold separately beforehand to AR-UK. This avoided having a McKenzie owned media property in Liverpool with its inevitable link to The Sun. It was then bought back into the TWG/UTV group once Mr McKenzie had left. This time round, Juice was sold to Global whilst the rest of the group was sold to News Corporation, once again avoiding the link with The Sun. |

No, I suspect radiotuner is right.

My memory isn't good enough to say when they stopped being under common ownership, but this is why we had two stations at opposite ends of the country with the same name. |

Juice in Brighton and Juice in Liverpool were both owned by Forever Broadcasting at one point. Before this, 107.6 in Liverpool was an alternative music station called Crash FM and 107.2 in Brighton was known as Surf 107.

The Irish press put the sale of Juice down to the losses incurred by the struggling UTV Ireland: http://www.thejournal.ie/utv-radio-s...45522-Jun2015/
http://www.irishtimes.com/business/m...-10m-1.2238568 It also happened over a year before UTV/WIreless Group was sold to News Corp. They two sales may not be linked but the same station has been hived off separately twice, whilst others in it's group have been sold to someone with a connection to The Sun. Coincidence? I dunno. |

At the time of the sale it was prior to the sell off. The boycot only affects the sun, Juice would have been fine with the new owners provided they didn't attempt to run ads for the sun.
10 million quid goes a long way towards getting rid of debt. |
