Zen - the BBC's glossy detective drama adapting Michael Dibdin's books, and filmed on location in Italy with Rufus Sewell in the title role.

It was axed by the newly arrived BBC controller Danny Cohen for being too masculine and middle class, instead favouring stuff like Vera instead.

But now that Cohen's gone, having also arguable helped to screw up other things at the BBC like its golden goose Top Gear, it would be great to see Zen return.

The three feature-length episodes they filmed were terrific.

Vera is and always has been ITV! Zen ran in 2011. What's any of this gotta do with 2016 axings?

Oh, I don't know, the thread title and OP seemed to be leaning that way, silly me!

I didnt explain myself clearly there. Either axed or not to be renewed its good that it'll be continued for another series now as it was an unusual piece of humourous writing from Ms Waller-Bridge.

Sometimes a show is axed othertimes there can be no more episodes because the writer doesn't want to do any more or the cast can't be got together again

Not really axed as the studio did want more but the producers were unable (at the moment) to deliver

I gather there won't be another series of Happy Valley until 2018 and the future of Sherlock is in doubt as both writers and principal actors have lots of other commitments.

Ideal – I'm still bitter about that, so have to keep watching my DVDs and recordings.

Dickensian, cant believe they havent recommission, when the writer has another 20 episodes almost written.

Musketeers wasn't axed. The cast were on a three season contract and it was never intended to go any further.

There's a long way between a few brief notes on a Post-It and 'almost written'!
