I wish we had something like that back in the day. I remember they would let you watch the first 5 minutes of a film before it cut off, albeit with the on-screen channel display which took up one third of the screen. Though sometimes they'd forget to encrypt the signal and you'd get a free movie Though with the annoyance of having to keep pressing Back-up to keep the channel display menu away.

They still do this. I flicked through the SBO channels the other night and found you can still watch the first five minutes of a film with the banner on screen. Not for much longer though.

But only on DVD. In an age of HD, why don't they give you a Blu-ray? All major consoles play them.

Having the boxing ppv means fewer late night fights in the US for british boxers. Sure its annoying but it's way better than staying up til 4am ( and paying anyway!!!)

Shame for the small percentage that can't get broadband, but otherwise Sky must have reached the tipping point of commercial viability.

Does this mean they'll be able to re-open the SD EPG queue, must be a few slots right there. This might make more money than the revenue from rentals.

With the Box Office closures and the number of other channels that have closed over the years, there must be plenty of SD slots available now. I'm sure Sky have their own reasons for keeping it closed though.

I think the first film I ordered may have been Keanu Reeves in Chain Reaction. I also recall ordering TLKG and possibly Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones. I also vaguely remember how it wouldn't accept my first order and told me to phone customer service, who said I couldn't order because their records showed my receiver wasn't capable of receiving Astra 1D!

In all the years of Sky Box Office and pay per view I have only ever ordered one film. That being Erin Brockovich starring Julia Roberts! I now get my films free via torrents....but I didn't say that right?!

It's nothing to do with Netflix as they don't compete in the same market. It's because the overwhelming majority of Sky homes are connected and can just buy a film for near instant viewing, rather than waiting to watch/record a linear channel that's wasting satellite space.

The things are separate, some times there's a film that I want to see but don't feel like going to the cinema.

I don't want to buy the DVD because it's a film I know I'll only want to watch once and Netflix is just too far away (even if it becomes available at all) Ordering a film via PPV does fill that niche
