Fleur East has written a comment piece for the Evening Standard, which you can read below:

http://www.standard.co.uk/stayingin/...-a3412711.html

She thought Matt had it in the bag, but now thinks Saara might win.

In other news: Just figured out that Fleur is the second highest educated X Factor finalist with an undergraduate degree. Honey G is the most with a master's degree.

It's a strange world.

Probably quite a few, which is why the Evening Standard have enlisted her to post for them.

What, you're surprised that she's not the wannabe hip-hop star she always claimed to be

It will probably the scariest thing they’re going to experience because nothing is guaranteed except for the winner.
I thought Ben (who, now?) won, not her.

I doubt Fleur wrote this. Awfully convenient her 'opinions' happen to line up with the message the judges and VTs give us every week.

Really this is more a summary of what happened in the show this week if you missed it.

-Fleur, what do you think about this year's finalists?
-Sax.
-Who is your favourite to win?
-Sax.
-Any advice to Saara?
-You better play that sax.
-Thank you Fleur.

The fact she made the final was a joke. Her voice is below average and Sax is even worse. If you are going to rip off Uptown Funk, at least do it properly.

Think its more like work experience office junior writes what they're told to and Fleurs name gets stuck at the top of the column

Fleur is one of the best finalists of recent years, and certainly better than Ben Hay Now.

It's stupidly obvious these aren't her opinions at all, she just writes what she's told to. I've read most of them and they all just read like press releases. They really must think we're a bunch of morons.

I've never agreed with the slating her voice got. It's not the most powerful granted, but it's not as terrible as some suggest.

It's all subjective of course, but for me, Fleur was the only remotely interesting contestant in 2014. So it was a given for me that she made the final. Yes, the likes of Andrea and Lauren were better vocally, but they were as dull as ditch water. And yes, she certainly benefited from being Simon's favourite, no denying it, but she often topped the favourite polls on here and other sites from the very start of the lives, and her performance of Uptown Funk reached #1 on iTunes, so it's not exactly surprising she reached the final.

That's funny it's actually not - a average voice is 2 octaves, below average would be 1.5, Fleur has over 3, as told to me by Joshua Alamu her vocal coach....which I would probably listen to him more than a DS poster

Here is her highest note live so far c#6
https://youtu.be/FSN2sUzGe7Y

She can sing, she has a wide range NOW and she stays in tune through her live performances and having heard her live she can sing, you might not like her voice but to say she is average without the actual knowledge to back it up - just no

Here's further proof she can sing well

https://youtu.be/H4v1OTkO5mU

And if you go to her old YouTube you can quite clearly hear she's actually a good singer
I don't understand people who say she can't sing when she quite clearly can!

Fleur was incredibly lucky that Mark Ronson didn't release Uptown Funk a week later, she's probably still riding a bit of a wave from her performance. Whilst she probably would still have come second without it, it's become somewhat associated with her.

She has a fine voice, but she's almost become a caricature with the incessant promotion she was getting and Sax being played on X Factor/BGT almost every week. Fleur also got the overbearing backing track treatment, which doesn't help quell the criticisms of her voice.

Nice to hear that Fleur is smart as well as beautiful and talented

Also, Fleur's voice is not average. I would agree with Eva, around 3 octaves, and her tone is unique and marketable. She is also one hell of a performer. Props for being able to dance like that AND sing!

She was doing fine on the show before Uptown Funk, so she would have still made the final imo. And had Mark Ronson released Uptown Funk a week earlier, then Fleur would've performed her version a week earlier too. It wasn't "lucky"; the whole intention was for Fleur to perform that track before it got released so as to give the performance as big an impact as possible - Simon knew exactly what he was doing, and it's a tactic he's attempted to replicate since regarding unreleased songs getting performed. And in Fleur's case, it worked incredibly well, as it wasn't just the public who responded positively to the performance, but the mainstream media as well. It was the only real "moment" of that series - whether you like Fleur or not, that can't really be denied.

Sax, I agree, was overpromoted, and still is (although she's not the only Syco act that's overpromoted). I don't agree that she's a caricature of herself, as most people probably haven't picked up on Syco's slight obsession with her. It's mentioned a lot on this forum, but on the Fleur threads on the likes of popjustice and buzzjack, it's never mentioned. Considering it's two years since she's been on the show, and that she's only had one hit single since, I'd say a lot of people wouldn't remember who she is. She's not famous enough to be a cariacature of anything.

It was clever of Simon to give her uptown funk it's an instant song and really suited Fleur so much so it felt like her track it obviously wasn't buf she performed her ass off to it and should get credit and yeah in my view she helped the song become that big to Aswell as it being a great song - Bruno brought out his new stuff and it's same kind of route and hasn't been as big - people brought fleurs version because they liked her version!

Arthur is right she isn't so famous at this point to become a caricature it's only on this forum that people are so over sensitive about Fleur and Sax
