Would like to buy some war films for my father but they cannot be subtitled as he has cannot read very well due to a stroke. He loves WW1/2 movies and already has the obvious ones - pianist, defiance, valkyrie, enemy at the gates. Hes not a big fan of american films but Im sure there must be some cracking german/eastern European movies out there but they would need to be dubbed over rather than subtitled.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Dubbing is rare these days. I assume he has "Fury"? "Beneath Hill 60" isn't bad either, or perhaps "Passchendaele" or "Kokoda".

Thank you very much for the response - he doesn't have the movies you have mentioned so that is brilliant!

There was the two parter tv show Birdsong. It starred Redmayne might be worth a look.

I'd recommend Anthropoid (a British movie) from this year, starring Cillian Murphy, Jamie Dornan and Toby Jones.

It's about the botched assassination of Nazi Reinhard Heydrich by the Czechs in WW2.

One of the best movies of the year for me personally.

Not quite WW1 or WW2, but 71' starring Jack O'Connell set during the troubles in Belfast is also excellent. It's British as well.
