Currently have a Sony Soundbar that is "ok" but seems to be lacking something. Looking for a "wife friendly" surround sound system (no trailing wires etc).
Have seen these and just wondered if anybody on here was using one and could recommend (or otherwise!).

Generally gets very good reviews, but is quite pricey for a soundbar.
But it does get round the problem of trailing wires!!

In respect of price it's certainly a step up from the muck-and-bullets end of the soundbar market. But at under £600 it's still far cheaper than the B&W (£1600), upper-end Yamaha (£1500), Sony (£1000) and Sonos (£1250-£1500). Of all of them it's the only one I've seen that has an answer to wireless rears that doesn't involve mains cables. It's a clever interpretation of how wireless rear surround can be done.

The connectivity is good too. That's usually something that takes a bit of a hammering when there's some kind of innovation stealing the limelight. Not so here, and that's a good thing.

Philips can make decent sounding gear when it's not trying to fight it out at the budget end of the market. I recall hearing a demo of their HTS8000 2.1 virtual surround system in an enormous room in an Italian hotel 11 or 12 years ago. At the time this was quite an expensive bit of kit, but the effect even in that large room was very convincing.

If the Philips ticks all your boxes then go for it.

Thanks for your prompt reply Chris, much appreciated.
I've had surround sound systems in the past, all in ones, separates etc.
Missus hated them, too many remotes, too many cables, dust magnets blah blah blah!
I've never owned any Philips A/V before, don't know why but I've always been a little "wary" of the brand, tending to go for Japanese stuff.
I'd be pairing this up with a Samsung KS7000 panel with an Xbox One S carrying out the 4k/blu ray duties.
Seems the ideal solution to an age old problem.
