Has Nico Rosberg gained or lost your respect since announcing his retirement.
Simple one this. Discussing Rosberg's decision to retire with friends and found some people's opinions of him since the announcement have changed or been reinforced. Wondered what others here think.

He has more money than he will ever need.
He has a young family he wants to see grow up. He doesn't need to risk his life anymore. He has put his family above his career. How can you not respect anybody for that ? Seriously, how can you criticise anyone for that ? |

Interested in opinions of him as a driver really for the Poll, but also interesting to hear opinions of him as a person too. Something that again came up in my conversations with friends.

As a driver & competitor I've lost the respect that he had started to gain from me this year.
As a family man you have to respect the decision. |

Personally I respect him more, he achieved his goal, nothing else to prove to anyone, go and enjoy the time with his family and the money he has made.
Some things are just more important than driving around a track. |

That makes no sense to me. They are the same man. You don't respect him for not risking his life and putting his newborn child first ? I am confused.
By retiring now and with the comments he's made about his/Hamilton's ability it seems that even he accepts he doesn't have an edge on Hamilton to compete on the track (engine failures aside). It seems like he has just confirmed he is not as good as we all knew he wasn''t. By openly coming out with what he has I have respect for his human side and his care for his family. In many walks of life you have to respect someone for what the have achieved professionally but may not respect them as a person or vice-versa. |

As a driver I felt he had started to prove how good he could be. His attitude had changed from the start of the season, he seemed less needy as a driver who always seemed to want info handed to him rather than working stuff out for himself.

You ask a question yet want multiple answers. It's simple Respect his decision or you don't. As i see it, it's his decision so end of. I fail to see how that can be disrespectful |

Only if he ends up making a comeback in a couple of years saying he was bored/too hasty/missed the sport.

Neither. I hadn't heard of him until he retired and it was on the news.

He is world champion, that's a fact

I fail to see how that can be disrespectful Secondly, I haven't asked if people's respect for him as a person has changed. You queried why how I could respect him as a driver differently to as a human, you said "That makes no sense to me. They are the same man", so I responded wit what I meant by that. Some people respect people for their profession ability but do not respect them as humans/people. eg Katie hopkins, you have to have respect for her professional ability to carve out a position in the public concious as someone that has very strong views, is divisive, counter popular opinion ect, but you can also say you have liitle respect for her as a human/person because she is such a vile person in many aspects. Admittedly, the colouring of the question on the poll is not very easy to read but by the time the poll appeared I could no longer edit. the main title to match. |

I'm actually conflicted by his decision.
It seems like a bit of a cop out. Sure, I appreciate that he has a family and that it’s a dangerous sport, but it just feels a bit ‘off’. He was very lucky this season, yet the record books will only show that he won the World Championship. The record books aren’t really interested in the whos and the hows, though. It’d have been interesting to see him come back next season as reigning champion. I get the sense that he knows he’s inferior to Hamilton and knows that he’s unlikely to be as lucky again…..and it’s that point which makes things feel a little ‘off’. My respect for Rosberg remains unchanged, but I think I actually have more respect for drivers like Vettel, Hamilton, Schumacher, Button, Alonso. They’ve been there, done it and had the t-shirt, yet they continue(d) to remain motivated…..and it can’t be about the money, surely? To come back time and time again when, on balance, you don’t really need to, must show how motivated they are and how much they love and enjoy the sport….something which fans get to witness and therefore, appreciate. |

You used the word respect in your poll NOT opinion. I respect anyone who puts their family first end of. You have asked about respect for him as a driver. That's what I don't get as he is no longer a driver If you mean - do you respect his decision ? Absolutely I'll leave this now as I don't want to keep arguing a point |

Absolutely I'll leave this now as I don't want to keep arguing a point My opinion of him has changed in that I have lost/gained respect for him! Seriously is that a hard concept to grasp. Someone's amount of respect for someone else is subjective and their opinion. If I wanted to know if respected his decision, that is what I would have asked. Just because Jenson Button has retired does that mean we are no longer allowed to have respect for his driving abilities when racing? "I'll leave this now as I don't want to keep arguing a point" Ditto |

I'm yet to find a thread that Darren has been on and hasn't started an argument with someone.
