No.
We have enough people on this island already. Send him and all of the others back, or let some other country take them. |

Agree with it or not, but homosexuality is illegal in Uganda and despite him knowing the law he decided to break it. Why should we have to take him in?

Why should we be the only country to refuse asylum claims?

Are you going to also tell people to stop having children, too? Or regulate it, so the same number of people dying are being born??? |

He won't die if and when he goes back to Uganda, it's just words to make people sign the petition. Different rules for different folks and all.

It's pretty crappy in Uganda for a lot of people though, he isn't the only one. It's terrible to be a woman in Uganda which does not have gender equality or a child from a poor family in Uganda where child labour is rife. We aren't responsible for everyone in the world who comes from a corrupt, bigoted shithole and we can't take them all in.

I feel sorry for the guy if he is telling the truth, but we have to look after our own country and people first and decisions like this open the floodgates for everyone from Uganda who claims they are gay getting to stay here.
So boot him out. He can either live there without flaunting his sexuality or try claiming asylum in another country, maybe one closer to home. |

I know they do. But unless he goes back and tells everyone, I expect he'll be fine.
Anyway, we don't know the real reason why he is being deported, it obviously isn't because he's gay, sexual orientation doesn't and shouldn't play a part in these decisions, then everyone would just claim they're gay so they don't get sent back. |

Why has it taken eleven years to process this man's apparent asylum claim then?

If we had everyone here who is in trouble we would have no money, housing or standard of life ourselves though. He could go to neighbouring or nearby safe places, there's a lot of countries between here and Uganda, why here?
.Should every other gay man in Uganda be allowed to come here too? if not why this guy? What about our gay homeless or people in shelters because as single men they don't get council housing when they lose their house because they lost their job etc.. It is an emotional case, but there will be potentially millions more people encouraged here if we make special cases. e.g. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co....faced-10444200 |

How can anyone reasonably begin to quantify that?? Have you do in depth studies, or is this just a lazy generalization?
Are you going to also tell people to stop having children, too? Or regulate it, so the same number of people dying are being born??? We should only be allowing entry to people who will fill jobs that we can't fill with the people we have here already. |

There have been cases where potential asylum seekers falsely claimed they were gay to win appeals so I guess the Home office is pretty rigorous in investigating. It does seen as though this is genuine and that Jimmie is actively contributing to society.
I think we should be focusing on trying to change attitudes and culture in countries with violently homophobic laws. Uganda is still in the Commonwealth and a trading partner of the UK. It took a huge global movement to effect change in South Africa during the apartheid period. |

No of course we can't do anything about people having children. But we can stop people we don't need from migrating here.

Why ? I don;t care if he was in a relationship with a man or a woman, why should he be allowed to stay just because of said relationship ?

Something else is pissing me off about this case, and although it may be my browser, I think I should mention it. Last night when I started this thread and googled Jimmy's name, a number of articles came up, one of which I was just going to link to. But suddenly I can't see a single sodding one of them, not even some mainstream media reports from a few months ago. What the chuff is all that about?
I'll try Yahoo. ETA: same with Yahoo. |

Uganda doesn't exactly treat LGBT people in a good way. In fact, they kill them. I'm assuming transgender people also get killed.

That's why they don't advertise their sexuality in public and anything that happens goes on behind the scenes. However wrong that is, the answer isn't to say ok anyone who wants to can come to the UK and live instead and we'll house them and give them everything they need.

No one is suggesting that they should all come to the UK, and they don't necessarily all want to come here.
The lefties don't see the issue as they are comfortable. 1M new people come to the UK every 3 years it is becoming unsustainable, we've all seen the recent effect politically where a massive amount of the population want to see net migration down, rather than at record levels. |
