Applying for this for my son. Passport required as ID. Problem is his passport has expired. Will it still be accepted as valid ID or do we also have to fork out for a new passport?

Passport should still be fine as valid ID, even if it's expired.

It says here it needs to be valid.

There are some other ID options that might suffice though, but you won't be able to use the online application service.

Applying for this for my son.
Given he is an adult or as good as one, cant he do these sort of things himself? Let him do it himself and learn some life skills of how to start coping for himself.

Hi,

To the best of my knowledge it has to be a valid passport.

The best life skill he can learn is how to work out who continually talks out of their arse on the internet.

God, by the age of 17 I was sorting out my own student finance and cooking meals for five people every night in the holidays, wouldnt dream of letting my parents fill in forms for me. Tut tut.

Yes, having an expired passport has exactly the same legal standing as ID as having no passport at all.

Hmmm, shall I, shall I, I don't usually?

Oh sod It!, perhaps you should have Ginger then the use of apostrophes, commas and grammar would have been a little better.

As will mine once pointed out to you at age 17, I would not " fill in " but "completed", would have known your use of the word, "people" was superfluous and "wouldnt" required an apostrophe.

But knowing all that, my grammar is shit, my spelling atrocious and my over use of the word " that ", pisses me off.

Not to mention that "arranging" would have been more elegant than "sorting out".

Overall, it is best not to correct grammar on the internet as in doing so you're prone to be judged yourself. Indeed, I think your "perhaps you should have Ginger then the use of apostrophes..." could be improved to "perhaps you should have done, Ginger then your use of apostrophes..."

But then that's just an opinion rather than a correction, you understand

Would just like to say that my 17 year old son is so juvenile that he has asked for driving lessons for Xmas rather than more practical and adult things like computer games and bottles of mad dog 20/20.

So although he won't have his provisional in time for Xmas as this was a recent request for Xmas it will still be part of his Xmas hence his mother and I sorting it out for him
