Ebay/Paypal Confirmed Address
I am hoping somebody can help with this. I have been selling on ebay for the last year, always and only ever accept paypal as payment method. Well tonight a relative ebay newcomer has won one of my auctions. Ebay says he paid straight away using paypal, I login to my paypal and the funds are indeed there. But there is no mention of the transaction on the transaction list/Summary in Paypal. I always check both the registered address on ebay and paypal and make sure they match, thus no problems with people complaining it was sent to the wrong address. In this case I only have an address showing in ebay which seems to be a hall of residence at a uni. So I am hoping that somebody will be able to tell me if they have encountered this type of thing before, the transaction not showing in paypal thing. Is this just down to the buyer not being a registered paypal user? And also am I likely to encounter any problems sending an item without a fully confirmed address, that appears to be a hall of residence, especially at this time of year?
Thanks in advance. |

My first thought is that he may have paid the money into the wrong Paypal account.
Also if sending to a communal address like a hall of residence I would send it signed for. |

It seems a person can buy on Ebay without having a PayPal account linked to their Ebay account. The person "pays through Ebay" and it goes onto the sellers PayPal account.
It used to be that a seller could set restrictions as to what type of buyer could be allowed to buy from them. I cannot remember the details but that doesn't matter now that it's already happened. ------- Without a confirmed address in PayPal a seller probably wouldn't be protected, not that they really are anyway since Ebay side with the buyer mostly. If it's an item worth a lot of money then maybe just not send it and refund them. Say it got damaged. Is it likely that the buyer really is a student? Is the item a thing that students buy? |

Thanks for the replies. Up until I went to bed last night the details of the transaction were still not showing, so I decided to leave it till this morning and now all transaction details including the buyers address are viewable in paypal.
As for sending to the halls of residence, I always send things by a fully tracked and signed for courier, the problem there was more to do with the time of year as I know term time is quickly coming to and end at this time of year. But due to the addresses matching in both ebay and paypal, even if the buyer kicks up a fuss about not getting it in time, thats there fault for using the halls as their registered address and then going home for Christmas. |
