Fashion 1 was taken off Freesat two weeks ago and has now been taken off the Sky EPG and is showing a slate saying "this service is currently unavailable".

Looks like it could be closing for good.

Not surprised though, I doubt there's enough market for one type of this genre, never mind two (Fashion TV).

Last I heard was that Fashion TV was losing money, but is subsidised because it's primary purpose is to showcase new fashions for the industry.

Just as I thought, once a service disappears from Freesat doesn't necessarily mean that channel has abandoned the platform as has happened numerous times before.

The full tale of what's happening is here:

http://www.fashion.tv/posts/read/36690

The caption does say currently not available.

I wonder if either Fashion TV HD or Fashion 4K is coming to replace Fashion 1?

Could this be the first 4K channel on Freesat?

If not, can we receive Eurobird 9 in the UK?

It says Fashion One has acquired Fashion TV, so if anything they're getting bigger but perhaps not broadcasting in the UK any more.

Fashion TV itself was on Sky years ago as a free channel, then they left following a 'dispute' with Sky, it later returned as a subscription channel, then in 2010 was removed again. It never returned to the UK but continued to broadcast elsewhere.

I remember that happening, it was similar to Motors TV.

Now that Fashion One have bought Fashion TV, perhaps we will see Fashion TV come onto Freesat to replace the old Fashion One slot?

Fashion TV is carried by Virgin Media in the ROI, but I don't think that any platform carries it in the UK these days.

Why is there a need for this thread in Freesat? You've got a duplicate in the Broadcasting section.

One relates to the development in a generic broadcasting sense and the other relates to the fact that Fashion One didn't leave Freesat because they didn't believe it to be viable to continue and the possibility of it returning under the guise of Fashion TV (perhaps the first 4K channel for Freesat).

Where do you get that supposed fact from? If as you say the channel is viable why did they remove it from both the Freesat and Sky EPGs instead of keeping them open and rebranding. The link you posted in the Broadcasting forum is over a year old and the supposed rebranding didn't happen on 28E as happened on other satellites they broadcast.

Your fantasy threads do exhibit a wild imagination at times.

The channel is still broadcasting off the EPG and broadcasting a slate saying that it's not currently available.

If it were not to be returning, I would expect it to say 'no longer available' and the signal to be cut.

If you don't wish to read my posts, put me on ignore.

As there are no 4K Freesat boxes available that would be pointless.

Eurobird 9 is easily receivable in the UK.

There are no 4k set top boxes yet but are there not 4k capable Freesat TVs

Thanks for clarifying.

I wonder why they chose Eurobird 9 instead of changing the Astra feed straight away

Maybe it's cheaper or makes it more easily receivable to countries outside Europe??

The currently unavailable slate was removed from the EPG and has now been removed altogether.

Looks like Fashion One has gone for good on Astra and won't be being replaced by Fashion TV.

Why not just say "no longer available" and/or provide details of how to receive Fashion TV on the other satellite??

Probably because 99% of people with Freesat wont ever use another satellite, or even care that it's gone.

Whilst this is true, you'd think that they themselves would want to try and pick up viewers on the other satellite.

It all depends on who put the "slate" up - SES, EPG provider(s) or Fashion TV. If it was Fashion TV then they would still have to pay transmission costs (and EPG fees if they wanted it visible on the EPG). Were there any messages on the channel before it disappeared? Generally broadcasters give advance warnings of such moves to their viewers beforehand.

There are NO 4k Freesat capable TVs out in the UK at the moment

No one is broadcasting 4k via the airwaves or by cable TV aka Virgin as the standard is not even been settled yet

BT TV has only one streamed 4k TV channel via broadband

At the moment TVs are 4k Ready only with NO 4k Tuners inside

Your usual utter load of incorrect rubbish Joshua. There is no such thing as a 4k satellite tuner and never will be. Tuning of 4k channels (of which there are now several including a demo channel on 28E) is by a standard DVB S2 tuner which is then passed to a decoder. It is the decoder that is the 4k capable part. There are several Freesat TVs that are 4k with the appropriate 4k HEVC decoder that can receive these 4k channels with a satellite dish aligned on the required satellite. There are numerous reports across the various forums reporting success at receiving these channels so before spouting forth your usual rubbish please check your facts.

As for nobody broadcasting 4k yet - what are this list of satellite channels then - http://en.kingofsat.net/ultrahd.php

Mostly demo and test channels but also two FTA channels Fashion 4k and a Sports channel as well as Sky's 4k subscription channels.

Strange that in the Birmingham Richer Sounds branch about 2 months ago a LG UHD TV was showing the SES Astra 4K UHD demo transmission on Freesat channel 998.

And there is no such thing as a DVB-S2 tuner either. A tuner is the front end of the TV and can support analogue or digital. (Though separate tuners are normally used for satellite and terrestrial). DVB-S2 is also in a follow up decoder.
