Firstly DO NOT RETUNE!

Never ever retune your TV when a channel goes missing until you have eliminated every other possible cause.

Talking Pictures is certainly still listed on yjr Digital UK listing

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/industry/...annel_listings

If you go to that webpage and click on the Mux column header you'll get the other channels on COM7 listed alongside Talking Pictures. Do you still get any of those or are they also missing?

Although you say never retune..my tv told me I have no channels,so I had to retune or just watch a blank screen!
But still the picture is breaking up om certain channels..I have a feeling this bloody Hitachi tv forgets it's been tuned at all.

Retuning should never be the first option when you lose channels, even all of them. You should always eliminate every other possible cause first. Even if the EPG is completely blank with no channels at all listed you should still hold fire as there may be some other reason.

The TV may have some sort of auto update mode that kicks in at a certain time if it's left in standby. If there is an aerial fault when this happens it could wipe all the tuning data.

If the channels are listed but no picture is received when selected or there is severe break up then that could indicate a fault somewhere between the aerial and the plug in the back of the telly. So you need to check all of that out as much as you are able to.

That means checking the aerial is till in good nick and pointing in the right direction. Also that the cable is OK with no breaks on outdoor runs that can let rain in degrading the cable. Also check any and all connections, be that plugs, wall sockets etc, in the chain. And if you have some sort of distribution system to feed multiple rooms make sure that is also in good nick and working correctly.

Also untangle the cables behind the telly. It has often been reported here that aerial leads tangled up with HDMI leads in particular can suffer from interference effects, usually when using cheap poorly screened cables. The better the cables used the less likely you are to have issues. But can sometimes help to keep the aerial lead separate from all the other leads as much as possible.

Only once you have eliminated all those possible causes of the problem should you attempt a retune.

Chrisjr..first let me apologies..I only had one thing to check which I thought looked odd.
I took the aerial lead off the wifes Humax box as she doesn't use it, and did a complete set install..and bingo..over a hundred odd channels turned up instead of 40 odd..obviously somehow I've lost the original lead and put an inferior one on instead resulting in bad pick up..thanks for the reply anyway and making me shift my ass and examining the problem.

No, forget forums, go and ask your neighbours if they are having any problems, at least they live where you do.

What specific channels? There are three HD capable muxes on Freeview depending on which transmitter you receive from. While it is possible a TV fault could lose all three it would be unusual.

If you are losing channels like this then you quite likely have a fault somewhere. Either in the aerial system or the TV.

If it's a recent thing it could be down to co-channel interference somewhere, or the very foggy weather that we've had for the last few days can cause issues. However, it could also be down to a local interference issue or external aerial problem. If you can use your Humax box as an external tuner for a day or so connected to the same aerial feed and you see no issues, then there's a reasonable bet that it's a TV fault. However, the same issue would point to a faulty HDMI lead causing problems or an aerial patch lead that has a weak connection.

You need to troubleshoot this a bit more before you can arrive at something definite. It may well not be the TV, although if it has separate DVB-T and DVB-T2 tuners then the tuner dealing with stuff transmitted via DVB-T2 could be the problem. However, most devices nowadays have one tuner that takes care of everything.

BBC1,2 ITV, C4 & C5 HD are all on the same mux but BBC4 is on a different mux. So if you get channels like C4+1 HD, 4Seven HD, BBC News HD (see the list in the link I posted above for the rest) then you are receiving the COM 7 mux so should also be getting BBC 4. Unless it returned while BBC 4 is off air and that confused the TV?

One thing to check. Do you have any channels listed on numbers above 800? That range is not used by Freeview but is used by TVs and PVRs to store duplicate channels if you get reception form more than one transmitter. If there are channels up in the 800s then it is possible you are receiving another transmitter and the "disappearing" channels are from this rogue transmitter not Waltham and any slight change in atmospheric conditions could affect the reception of these channels.

If you do get channels up in the 800s then the only option might be to wipe all the channels from memory and manually tune to the Waltham muxes. Assuming your TV has a manual tune option of course.

Sounds familiar. Although I'm also in the Waltham area, I can get some signals from Belmont (useful for different regional news). I lose the Belmont signal if I turn the computer on.

I had loss of channels on some of devices occasionally. It turned out that it was a Youview box when it was connected to the internet. It is not usually connected but one day I realised the connection. Even when the Youview was not appearing to use the internet the interference occurred when it was on. The solution was to just move the Ethernet cable an inch or more away from the RF cables.
