Steve Baker says BBC journalists have been calling him seeking to whip up a backbench rebellion over Brexit #PMQs
That made me sit up. There will be more on this I expect.

Bugger, I missed it. Is that exactly what he said?

Well look at that!
Tory MP blasting Chris Grayling, unfit for office and should resign.

Whilst an SNP minister breaks the law and nothing is said.

Thornberry is no match for him. Why she chose to bang on about the Customs Union is anyone's guess.
Just watching a recording now. Presumably she's worried about losing her booze cruises to Calais.

Chance to watch Thornberry make a tit of herself.
Can't stand the sight of her, but I would begrudgingly have to admit that she did a far better job of it than that old duffer, Corbyn.

Outstanding performance from Mrs May's stand-in

She did quite well, he was getting more and more rattled, it made the government look silly having argued at the General Election being in the single market was important, now he couldn't confirm one way or the other about the Custom Union.

I'm surprised Tory ardent exiteers weren't outraged that the EU would know the government's position but our democratically elected sovereign parliamentary would be in the dark.

As a Tory MP later said the Government isn't leading the way, it is being forced to make concessions by the opposition.

Not so much a running commentary, more like running scared.

When the Prime Minister is out of the country someone else takes on their role, usually the Deputy Prime Minister. May doesn't have a Deputy so the Leader of the House of Commons is doing it instead. The Leader of the Opposition never does PMQ's if the PM is away. It's just convention.

If you don't understand why she is banging on about the CU then you should have a look at the implications of being outside the CU.

In particular in regards to the supply chain into the UK (Dover, Folketone and Norwich) and the ROI/NI border.

In addition, she's obviously banging on about staying the CU as there is a clear majority for this in the Common.

So good work Thornberry.. even though I usually can't stand her.
Labour seems to be settling on CU as there's a high probability its unobtainable, and tthey can then blame the Tories for not getting it.

The Customs Union stops the possibility of making independent trade deals , so unless there's a way around that, its a non starter, and is incompatible with one of the few things Leave made it clear would happen.
