Got the ZEUS virus on my pc. Advised by fraud action squad to shut down pc and to take it to get it cleaned. Where do I take it? On ipod now, and there are instructions out there to get rid of it. Unplugged pc from internet as soon as this happened so daren't reconnect, can anyone advise please? 😰😰

Theres many variants of the zeus banking virus. look at the bleepingcomputer site it will tell you how to identify and remove it...my personal favourite is just to nuke and reinstall but then thats me.

It might take some time and effort and a bit of the WTFery typing in commands or booting up into safe modes etc.

Thanks for your reply. Have been advised by fraud action squad not to reconnect pc to internet so how am I to fix anything with downloads if I can't do that?

USB stick/cd and a friend/neighbour to get the stuff for you would be the easiest way.

I will try to ask again but who exactly are this Fraud Action Squad you keep mentioning? Are they the ActionFraud service

http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

or some phone number on whatever message popped up to tell you you had this virus. If the latter then it is almost certainly bogus and part of the scam.

Panic is what the fake popup intends to create so why don't you follow the first link and if that doesn't work follow the second.

I do have a norton anti virus cd that I bought some years ago-would that work or does it need to be specific?

No. What Maxatoria meant is that you download the files suggested in the clean up links provided on a clean PC, then copy those files onto a USB stick or burn to a blank CD so that you can then transfer them to your infected PC, if you really don't want to reconnect that PC to the internet to down load them directly.

There is a very good chance that you are not infected with the Zeus virus and all you are seeing is a fake popup trying to get you to ring a premium rate number to get your money.

The first link I left you is ........ https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove...-virus-popups/

Follow that first and when you install Malwarebytes untick the free trial as Here.

You have nothing to lose by trying that.

Thank you! That's the page I got which is shown on that link-they try to get remote access on a 0800 nbr pretending they work for microsoft. I immediately unplugged pc from internet and fraud action/action fraud told have told me not reconnect until
Pc has been cleaned. Can get someone to download stuff from your link tho so hopefully all will be ok. Will I still lose all my pictures/files tho?

In addition to keeping the free version of MalwareBytes on the PC and running it once a week, I'd also suggest a preventative measure for future use.

I'd suggest installing the free McAfee SiteAdvisor which gives advance warning of dodgy and untrustworthy websites: http://www.siteadvisor.com/final/index.html

The advice given to you by the police is just general, in case you were actually infected.
You can reboot the computer and close the browser in task manager as instructed in the link.
Run ADW cleaner and Malwarebytes .... that should be enough, you probably won't need Hitman Pro.
You should not lose anything.

Hold on a minute, whilst I am grateful and have expressed my appreciation, the poster's first question was "who is fraud action" - not really important in the scheme of things. So. You know, let's not have snidey, sarcastic comments. Sure you have better things to do.

That really was meant as a mark of respect to our forum friend, LION8TIGER, who really does his best to provide good advice when someone is in need of help and, whenever I'm online, I try and follow that good example, e.g. with the McAfee SiteAdvisor suggestion which can help to reduce incidences of malware infection.
