I do something similar except I start the car first.
Go out, keys in ignition, start car, whack all the blowers and heat on full, get scraper out of glovebox, shut car door, start scraping side windows first. By the time I get to the front it's started to melt at the bottom where the blowers are warming up the screen. Scrape the front screen then get in and clear what's left of the front and rear with the wipers. Car is then starting to get toasty for the drive.
People seem to leave the car defrosting because they can't stand a few seconds in the cold. Just laziness.
