Laziness as in they can't be bothered to stand there in the cold scraping and would rather go inside in the warm whilst the blowers do all the work.
You mean they don't wish to stand there in the cold scraping. Lazy/can't be bothered is just your interpretation. Maybe they think you "can't be bothered" to wait a couple of minutes, or you "can't be bothered" to get out of bed a few minutes earlier - that's always a classic.

I find your form of derision lazy.

So do I

Maybe they're like me and nip out to get the car started and then go back indoors to finish off my coffee. Would it be more energy efficient and less lazy for me to lounge around waiting to finish my coffee and then start the car and required windscreen scraping or is it more effective to let the car defrost whilst I top up my caffeine levels?

I also believe that the car benefits from the couple of minutes idling before I drive off as she's quite old and takes a while to wake up in the mornings - like her driver

It would be great to see someone catch a car thief red-handed and knock the living daylights out of him. Justice would then be done.
On YT check out " don't steal bikes bro" 😊

that's one of the bonuses of having a shitcart, I can leave it running for days and no-one in their right mind would try and nick it
The police round here have warned that car thieves are also targeting crap cars as they don't stand out. I think they use them to take drugs up and down the motorway.

This reminds me of an episode in One Foot In The Grave. Victor had a crap car that got nicked and finished up in Finland. He was delighted but the car was returned to his dismay, it was then stolen many times but was always returned
FFFINLAND! THAT CAR COULDN'T GET TO FINCHLEY!

I have an old car and I do leave it's engine running to warm up about 5-10 minutes. I know if I don't, it will cut out on me at the next junction, if I just use de icer and drive away.

Glad that I'm not the only one. My old car gets quite grumpy going up the hill from my house if she's not had a few minutes to warm through.

I know there was a thread about getting car going and going back indoors, But near me there's been two incidents in the last 48 hours where the car owners left their car running to de-frost and then had the car stolen..idiots.
I am sure they will fully appreciate your judgemental attitude. They have lost their cars for what is a relatively minor thing and they are the ones having to pay the price of losing their cars.

When I had a shop many years ago this guy would pre pay for the local paper and literally be in and out within 30 secs at the most but one day he pulled up and left the engine running and someone decided to 'borrow' it. It was found a few miles away undamaged but it shows how quickly these things can happen.
I used to buy a morning paper on the way to work and would regularly see drivers leave their engine running while they went in the shop. I reckon it would be an ideal place to loiter if I were looking to steal a car.

I've never found it necessary to leave a car running to defrost it. Not only is it a stupid thing to do it's also antisocial - cars running unattended in the street, belching out noxious fumes
Your car, when attended, doesn't "belch out noxious fumes"?

You obviously don't live anywhere cold then
As my car engine took an age to heat up enough to stop my windscreen freezing up on the inside, I resorted to buying a 12 volt hair dryer from a local camping shop and fixing that to blow on the screen.

Unless on cloned plates, driving a stolen car with the network of ANPR cameras on the motorways is probably the worst way to transport drugs and keep a low profile.

Agreed, the clouds you see coming from the exhaust on cold morning is mostly just condensation, just like you see when you yourself breath out on a cold morning.

Even worse is the idiots pouring boiling water over their car because they can't be arsed to scrape it.

I did some driving in north America, and the hire car had a great solution to this. They key and the remote central locking fob were separate. You could start the car and leave it in "warm up mode" and then lock the car and go get your breakfast. The remote central locking also locked the gear in Neutral and locked the key in the ignition. So even if they smashed the window they couldn't take the car.

That's probably why they just carjack them at traffic lights.

You mean with the wires in the front screen?

I like the concept of those, but whenever I've hired or test driven a car with that feature my eyes would randomly decide to focus (no pun) on the wires instead of the road. They said I'd get used to it, but it really wasn't worth the risk.

My Corsa has a heated steering wheel. Which is very welcome after scraping off. However, having a hot steering wheel makes the gear level feel like it's made of ice. First world problem or what?

To be honest, it's just the same as trying to focus on a smear or piece of dirt on the windscreen, completely buggers your eyes up by trying to focus on something so close and the suddenly far away.

I did see that feature when looking for cars a few months ago, but it does rather feel like second fiddle to a heated windscreen.

had quick clear screens on my last cars, turn it on, reverse of the driveway and STOP to get out and scrape the side windows.

or open the side windows if they are not frozen up and drive in the freezing cold.

Yes, I do have the same issue with smears on the windscreen. If the squirt and wipe doesn't shift it I have to pull into a layby and get my cloth out and clean it off properly just to stop my stupid eyes locking in on it. It can make a long journey a lot more tiring than it needs to be, so best off with a very clean windscreen.

Also, I like clean wing mirror glass, or else all I sometimes see is the dirt on them and not the traffic behind me.

Scrape the front screen then get in and clear what's left of the front and rear with the wipers
Don't forget to turn your lights on and scrape the lenses. So many cars on cold mornings with barely visible indicators!

Easily sorted by a first world solution:…get an automatic.
