Or wear gloves?

I actually keep a thick right hand glove in the car to wear whilst wielding the scraper and to wipe the inside of the windscreen.

that's one of the bonuses of having a shitcart, I can leave it running for days and no-one in their right mind would try and nick it
The amount of times I've left my car unlocked (don't have a fob to lock it remotely) and no one has bothered to touch it.

Best thing about having a 15yr old battered shitheap!!

And not one mention of what the law says about this

Highway Code, Rule 123

You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road. Generally, if the vehicle is stationary and is likely to remain so for more than a couple of minutes, you should apply the parking brake and switch off the engine to reduce emissions and noise pollution. However it is permissible to leave the engine running if the vehicle is stationary in traffic or for diagnosing faults.

But it is OK on your drive.

Legal? Apparently so, but not something yet tested in court.

OK? Definitely not.

You never did come back on the other thread with any evidence to support your claim that an offence could be committed on your own property.

Why isn't it OK in your eyes, the risk of theft accepted?

Why not? My car is parked behind my house with a 30 yard drive to my gate. I leave it running for a few minutes with the front and back window heaters on to defrost ice.

If I sat in the car, I'd still be doing the same thing.

That's no guarantee.

Back in my student days, my flatmate's girlfriend was staying over, but discovered in the morning that her car had gone. It was the "economy" cersion of a Vauxhall Viva that had seen better days, but that seemed no deterrent to the tea-leaves.

Fortunately, she discovered it abandoned round a corner about a couple of hundred yards away. The theory was that it had only made it that far before conking out, and the thieves has decided to give it up as a bad job.

I do something similar except I start the car first.

Go out, keys in ignition, start car, whack all the blowers and heat on full, get scraper out of glovebox, shut car door, start scraping side windows first. By the time I get to the front it's started to melt at the bottom where the blowers are warming up the screen. Scrape the front screen then get in and clear what's left of the front and rear with the wipers. Car is then starting to get toasty for the drive.

People seem to leave the car defrosting because they can't stand a few seconds in the cold. Just laziness.
Absolutely. That's how to do it. There are several antisocial individuals in my road who go out, start the car and leave it thrumming away annoyingly for fifteen or twenty minutes. When I go out the air is full of noxious diesel fumes. Selfish, inconsiderate bastards!!

Easiest method?

Cover the windscreen the night before!

A few litres of cold tap water on the windscreen (and rear one if needed). Don't use the wipers. Wind down the side windows. 60 seconds. Start up. Go.
