So why do you get to have your way of life but they don't get to have theirs?

If your opinion is that not everyone deserves the same rights, your opinion is wrong. Your opinion ceases to be an opinion when your opinion becomes a battering ram to hurt other people with.

Well i`m not stopping anything, they live their life how they want. I say i don`t like even seeing two guys holding hands, doesn`t mean i`m doing anything to stop it.

"We" You can't group everyone as a herd and say they're either this or that because there will be some that are some that aren't and it will always be like that unfortunately its a part of life.

it`s like people hating Trump or Hillary. Both sides seem to hate each other and say the other one is wrong, but in the end they are both different opinions.

'Traditional' here is just a code word for 'old fashioned, or 'backward looking'. Wrapped up in token nostalgia to make it more acceptable.

I'd rather talk about love. Conditional love, and unconditional love.

You can love someone very much. You can love you children very much. But, do you really want to give you children that comes with strings and conditions?

Or would you rather give you children love and acceptance that is free and unrestricted?????

Is it a traditional family value to turn away your child if they are gay and say you will no longer be their parent ( you said if your son was gay , would the same apply to a lesbian daughter ? ) .

Everyone does have their own opinions but surely you could agree to disagree over a relatives sexuality , whilst not agreeing you could agree just not to discuss it without the need to disown a child.

What`s wrong with old fashioned? I wish the world was like it was in the 70`s.

yes same goes for lesbians too. Doesn`t matter how much i would love my kids, i would never sit at a Christmas dinner table with my son and his boyfriend.

If you loved them unconditionally then you would do whatever it was that made them happy and you would put your own petty objections (and they are petty as far as I can tell) aside.

And how much damage would you be doing to that son or daughter by the way you state that you would treat him or her? You think that only beating someone up or swearing at them causes harm? How do you think it would feel to be rejected by your family? I didn't realise traditional family values included spurning your child because they don't conform to your narrow view of how they should live.

Take it from personal experience. you can get all the support from the outside you like, but if the people your closest too. Your mother and father, that can really bury into the back of your head. And constantly undermine every good thing you want to achive

Telling your kids that being gay is wrong, that wont stop them being gay. But it might just blight every piece of joy in their hearts. It will make them bitter, lonly, and angry......

As hard as i try to just express myself, i have a strong streak of fear in me, that stops me from just expressing myself.

Is that what you want for your children???

We can only hope and pray that he never has kids, with that attitude he is not fit to reproduce. .

You weren't born till 1987 so you have no idea just how bigoted and backward the 1970's were, although with your narrow outlook on life, you sound like someone from the 1930's.

I live in what I thought was a town populated largely by enlightened, tolerant people. It certainly has a reputation for being gay-friendly.

However, in the context of George Michael's death there have been some really vile, homophobic posts on the local online forum, so I'm forced to conclude that even here, homophobia is still alive and kicking.

I can only hope you fire blanks, cos from personal experience the world of pain thats caused from parents dis-owning their children simply because of who they find attractive is not a pain I would wish on anyone. The untold lifetime of mental damage and feelings of not being worthy enough to be loved or to love is a cruel curse.

Perhaps you and Richard Hammond could be be best friends, since he seems to think men eating ice cream is a "bit gay" another backward opinion that belongs in the "good ole racist, sexist, bigoted 1970s"

I'm not one to defend one of those idiots, but I just watched that video and it must have been a joke because it was so ludicrous. I think he was actually taking the mick out of people who genuinely hold such views - hence it being so nonsensical.

It's a form of child abuse. No better than sexual abuse and those who perpetrate it are no better than paedophiles.

Kinda off topic but did anyone watch the film 'Pride' last night on BBC Two? It was really good and I found it interesting, they got the right balance for the subject matter and there were some real funny moments.

I honestly can't imagine what it must've been like to have been gay in the 70s/80s and so heavily discriminated for it (or any time prior to recent years for that matter).

I can tell you what it was like to be gay in the 1960's, it was hell, and consequently I felt so guilty and worthless that in 1966 I had a nervous break down at the age of 29, and ended up in a mental hospital having electric shock treatment, and was under a psychiatrist for two years.

50 years later, I have a wonderful life, with good friends, and am looking forward to taking part in my third London Marathon two weeks before I turn 80.

So to anyone who feels that there is no hope, just remember that things are so much better now, and they can get better for you if you believe in yourself.

If you were my Dad I would be utterly ashamed of you. Hopefully if you ever have kids they will disown you before you disown them. You are disgusting.

This is inspiring!

Basically, this.

Interesting when the shoe is on the other foot. Imagine having a parent who's love only extends as far as sexuality begins.

My sentiments entirely. I always shake my head in disgust when people think we choose to be gay! It's not a choice.

Society is still changing, you can't expect everyone to suddenly have the same views in an instant and you can't force people to be comfortable with homosexuality. Change happens as more people grow up with homosexuality as a norm. Who knows how things will stand in another 50 years time?
