... and the orchestra feature more prominently in the shows. It would add to the feeling of being a live show. Why are they always hidden away? Do they think it would distract from the dancers?

Very strange - the PTB have missed a trick here. Or maybe they think they'd have to pay them a lot more?

The singers get lots of recognition as they are named individually and thanked for specific songs. I'd like to see the band and singers on ITT. I know there was an appearance by each last year and, bless him, but Dave Arch was not comfortable in interview. I'd rather we see footage of them arranging and practising a song and the range of instruments they use.

The singers were on ITT tonight.

And.....sung.

Re the main show they get a lot of recognition, but consider the show is called, Scrictly come dancing, not singing. People here complain that a few backing dancers distract them, the singers if more prominent would do the same.

That would be really interesting. And maybe they wouldn't catch so much flak when people realise how little time they have each week.

The singers are more visible than they used to be, didn't even know what they looked like or their names in the first couple of series.

And no, the musicians shouldn't be more prominent. This is an opinion as a musician. Done lots of pit work and accompanying and the musicians aren't the "important" factor, not the focus so to speak. You are there to support whoever is performing, the dancers, therefore take a step back. Never felt any need to place the spotlight on myself when doing this kind of work, just doing my job.

And I still find it hilarious the idea they don't have long to learn the songs. They said they get the songs on a Monday, so have a whole week to learn them. That is a really long time to learn a few songs, even in foreign languages.

I have a lot of respect for the singers. Not many could turn out consistently good performances of different music genres week after week with such a short rehearsal/run through time.
They have had some criticism of this forum over the years. I'd like to see the critics do as good, as often.

If you want to see more of the singers, go and see the tour..... they came down into the arena and join in some of the group numbers ( singing while being danced round of course), and definitely play a bigger part than they do on the tv show.

They do very well but I suspect that they get even less time to prepare when doing session work, would not be surprised if they often do not see the songs before arriving at a studio for a session.

We have just got back off a cruise. Lance was on the cruise the first week, he did two performances in the theatre and was excellent. The theatre was packed each time and everyone said how good he was. He specialises in swing but did other styles as well.

He came on board with us on Sunday after Blackpool and flew back from Madeira on the Friday before the next show.

Indeed the singers and band do a great job.
That's not to say all their performances are incredible - there have been a few where they've been a bit out of tune and distracted from the dances but 95% of the time they really do a fantastic job with the mix of songs they have to deal with. And certainly I prefer having a live band and singers there to a recording.

The Strictly rendition of Gangnam Style in particular was a triumph.

I would use them instead of the "fresh from the grave" acts they use on the results show.
Every single time.

agree. they are a great resource and i'd like to see them centre stage.

i also sometimes think it would be good if the guest act had to sing live with the house band instead of their own set up, that would quickly thin out the 'talent' pool to those who actually meet the definition...

thats great, thanks for that, don't usually see ITT

what a lovely bunch they are, and astonishing really that people with this level of skill and talent are filling their off season with session work when the likes of 1D are worth millions...

I suspect that with some of the bigger names they will only be available for long enough to do a couple of run throughs which with their own backing will be sufficient. They would have to spend much longer to rehearse with the house band and might not be prepared to do that.

I'm sure the house band would do an excellent job on one run through.
Whether the celeb singer would cope is a different matter.

Yes, he did a great job on the cruise I was on in the Summer too. Talked a bit about his dad and his career too, which was nice. Used to enjoy listening to Ray on the radio when I was a bit younger....
