“There are politicians who are twisting and abusing religion and different strains of the same religion in order to further their own political objectives. That’s one of the biggest political problems in the whole region. And the tragedy for me – and that’s why you have these proxy wars being fought the whole time in that area – is that there is not strong enough leadership in the countries themselves.”

“That’s why you’ve got the Saudis, Iran, everybody, moving in, and puppeteering and playing proxy wars.”

Looks as if he's given up on being Foreign Secretary

That's the Saudis at the back of the queue for a post Brexit trade deal, that'll learn 'em.

A real slick move from Boris just as Teresa May is out in Bahrain speaking to an Arab summit.

Only it shows right and left hand of government not joined up. Theresa May is out there after trade deals. Personally I take Boris view and think we are wrong to be begging.

Saudi Arabia likely won't be around by the time we actually achieve Brexit

I take it you think Brexit is going to take a while? I think it'll take more than 2 years for Saudi to collapse.

As for Trump, who knows. He has, as usual, been inconsistant. One minute bomb ISUS, next really isolationist and not keen to commit forces abroad. I guess we'll have to wait for a 3am tweet one random Tuesday.

Oh dear, another fine mess to clear up...

Boris Johnson has accused Britain's ally, Saudi Arabia, of engaging in "proxy wars" in the Middle East.

The Guardian newspaper has published footage in which the foreign secretary talks of politicians "twisting and abusing religion" for political gain.

He said Saudi Arabia and Iran were "puppeteering" because of a lack of strong leadership in the region.

The video has emerged as Prime Minister Theresa May returns from a visit to the Gulf where she had dinner with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
But Boris it's an opportunity to export more arms.

Politician tells the truth shocker.

I can see how this would freak Labour out.

Despite him speaking some truth with some morality about Saudi Arabia, the Boris must be looking for the sack, a Conservative pulling off Corbyn momentum politics, the Tory right will roast him.

Why would it? I don't think Labour is all that keen on Saudi Arabia.

I would rather he spoke up against states such as Saudi Arabia.

It's a sad day when we're unhappy about a politician speaking out against a fascist regime.

Has he opposed sales of arms to Saudia Arabia or does he see them as an export opportunity?

According to Boris if we didn't sell arms to Saudi someone else will.

What I have learned from liberals this week is that communist China should have complete control over Taiwanese interests and Saudi Arabia should not be criticised! I can only imagine that if Trump brings freedom to the Palestinians he will be the devil for destabilising Israel?
