Sounds about right, Saudi and Iran have been having a power struggle in the region for quite a while based on the two factions of Islam.

Boris didn't mean the Saudi's we're supporting ISIS though.. or did he?

No need for wikileaks when Boris the unstopabble gob is in a position of power. Im starting to wish he had become PM

No, but diplomacy - the main plank of being a Foreign Secretary - isn't about gobbing off to all and sundry. That's the point. And Boris has shown he's just not someone who's capable of learning from previous mistakes.

Ah Boris, such a safe pair of hands.

What I have learnt is that pissing on people doesn't make them listen to you.

The only current use is to tell something true to ensure that trump will be upset and Tweet some garbage back.

No, what it means is that that Foreign Secretaries can't just say what they think because it has diplomatic consequences. It is why Boris will make a lousy Foreign Secretary.

It all rather depends on whether you think economic stability and access to oil are important or not.

Are we entering an age of 'post diplomacy'? Where Western politicians actually say what they believe rather than carefully prepared statements that are designed to not offend anyone whose money/military support we need.

I doubt that is the view of most liberals.

boris was being disingenuous - after all the saudis are our proxies -- its why we're selling weapons and directing operations in syria and yemen. and May has just agreed to a new base in bahrain and greater collaboration with the GCC.

he actually targeted the centres of islam - saudi / sunni - iran / shia - so it was an attack on islam / muslims.

he wouldnt attack uk/usa policies or the hypocrisy of our religious/political perversions not to mention israel.

..Or rather they don't mind shouting and spouting off from the sidelines - which is quite easy when you have no chance of getting into power.

Apparently the views of the foreign secretary are not those of the government.

So Saudi isn't having proxy wars etc with Iran and vice versa

Yes - country that bombs civilians in other countries, tortures its own citizens and executes gay people.

About time we started criticising the Saudis more!

It's having domestic repercussions all over UK News sites and news shows. The media love a good ding-dong.

I expect they'll emphasise the conflict between Boris and May rather than deeply explore Boris's idea that Saudi Arabia is a engaged in proxy war.

If we had to restrict our trade deals to benign democracies after brexit, that would leave us with Australia, New Zealand Canada and the Channel Islands.

Channel islands are full of dodgy tax dodgers.

Cant fault his critique of Saudi Arabia and he could go much further. However, I doubt his intentions, I think Boris has had enough of a proper job and is looking for the sack, he has also been critical of Downing street recently using him as some kind comedic prop. Still it looks bad on Conservative Government and that's all good for me.

Thank God they didn't make him PM.
