More pandering to the snowflake generation that can't wait a night for their pressies.

TBH though seeing as Christmas is an artificial human construct and seems to start in mid November now, it doesn't really matter what people do any more.

It is just a commercial 'holiday' for businesses to take advantage of.
Ah, the old, "let's shoehorn in the latest buzzword because people do things I don't agree with".

'Snowflake' - jeez, come up with something a little more original why don't you.

I imagine you're an old fart so your spirit of Xmas has been well and truly lost for some time now, but for little kids, keeping that magic going for as long as possible is a joyous thing.
So what if it starts sooner than <insert date that you have arbitrarily decided is the start date for Xmas>, for most people, the excitement and genuine joy of Xmas only lasts a few years so let's embrace it while we can.

When I was a child, Christmas Eve used to go so very slowly. I couldn't wait for Christmas Day. But I had to wait. I learned a little patience.

We have some traditions on Christmas Eve, like watching the Snowman before bed and maybe some new PJs if they need them anyway. We also have a nice meal in the evening and this year will be singing carols in candlelight at the church which should be a lovely Christmas Eve afternoon. We also read the night before Christmas for bedtime.

I don't like the idea of filling them with sweets and chocolate they don't need - anyway they will be getting plenty of treats on actual Christmas Day. IMO most Christmas films are tacky rubbish x
bib - that's exactly what the Christmas Eve idea is about - a DVD, some new PJ's and a bit of distraction. It doesn't have to be 'in a box' or anything, but you've described exactly what the idea is about. It's not meant to be presents or sweets, just a relaxing evening getting the kids ready to wind down and go to bed.

Who said anything about presents? Some people on here are taking the idea further, but the idea was a nice pair of PJ's, a new DVD to wind down on Xmas Eve and not much else. It's not meant to be a Christmas present before Xmas, although some countries and some people here do that.

All my kids are in their 20s and every Christmas eve, when they were little, they got to open the gifts from their dad and me.
Santa brought the other gifts.

The build up to Christmas Eve/Day/Boxing Day always did feel long even to this day. Eve/Christmas day and boxing day seemed to last so long but after boxing day it was like falling off a cliff. Before you know it, it was New Year then all the decorations getting packed up and everyone saying, there it is for another year. Flew past. Where did it all go.

Though my favourite part for Christmas time was always the dinners. No food matches that time of the year. Lovely creamy potatoes, roast potatoes, lovely turkey and the stuffing apple/sage and onion nom nom nom! chipolatas, creamy white sauce and cannot remember what it was? Cranberry sauce?

I've never heard this referred to as a Xmas Eve box, but it's always been a tradition in my family that you get new PJs on Xmas Eve. Me and the missus still continue the tradition for each other now.

Damn, now I realise why I got such dirty looks from the wife. I didn't realise it was PJ.

My kids are too old for them now but even so I think it's just another way to part us from our money.

When I was a child, Christmas eve was mum making mince pies and dad used to be whipping cream for the trifle with a hand whisk while the jelly set. Those smells still conjure up Christmas eve for me.

We do most of Christmas on Christmas Eve as my husband is Scandinavian that that is their tradition. We used to do both days (Yes, exhausting!) but now don't do much on the 25th .I prefer it that way.
