Did anyone see this? The presenter was totally mesmerising. She had warmth, intelligence and genuine enthusiasm and actually created a superbly informative and engaging programme. I learned so much about Catherine of Aragon tonight and I truly am excited for next week's episode. It was a very quick hour of television. The BBC at its best.

Absolutely, Lucy Worsley has done many History documentaries and she is as enthusiastic and mesmerising in these too

I didn't like the suggestion that it was part drama part documentary which is a format that really aggravates me.

I do like Lucy Worsley, but her love of dressing up on these shows is a bit annoying. I thought I'd test how long it took her to get the Tudor garb on in this show - one minute!
Henry VIII and his wives is a difficult subject to find anything new to say about, but I'll be intrigued to see what Lucy can dredge up about Jane Seymour (Danny Dyer's relative!) and Anne of Cleves.

They used drama to highlight the points raised and in my view it gave a more intelligible insight than a load of waffle could have done. It was all in context.

That sounds exactly as it was portayed in the C5 series. Charlie Clements (Bradley of EE) was in the title role.
I adore Lucy Worsley, her programmes are so captivating and wonderful, their a delight to sit down to. She's one of those rare people who couldn't do a 'bad' job of something if they tried, everything she does is pure gold. I could watch her presenting a show about paint drying and still find it informative and an absolute enthralling joy to watch.

Complete waste of time - why does the BBC have to flog H8 and his wives to death, especially after the C5 version (both of which were just silly with their dramatic scenes). I binned A-level history as it was basically just the Tudors and took Anc History - yet I learned nothing from this in an hour. We didn't even get "Catherine's point of view" much.

As for this new series, I loved the first episode. Of course anything to do with Henry and his wives has been told many times but having Lucy on board really enhances this one.
And she can act too! Those tears when Katherine was making her emotional plea to Henry was Oscar worthy from Dr Worsley

Love it.
I love Lucy Worsley but I can't honestly see the point of this. After Wolf Hall, The Other Boleyn Girl and all the other dramas and documentaries about the Tudors, I can't see where this added anything we didn't already know. It covered a period of 24 years but nobody aged! And it didn't help that Henry was a dead ringer for Michael Palin in his Ripping Yarns days!

Like you I wasn't going to watch it as the trailer put me off, but my wife put it on and I'm glad I did.
As someone who loves history, but didn't know that much about Henry VIII's wives beyond the basics I really loved this (and I hadn't been aware of any recent Channel 5 series). I was aware of some of the story, but not all - for example didn't realise they were married for so long, or had lost so many children. Really looking forward to the rest of the series. Also loved the location pieces - getting a feel for where they all came from.
The actor who played Henry was wrong for the part, they should have looked for someone who looked like the late union leader Bob Crowe & stuck a ginger wig on him.
