Doctor Who is really clever and his deceptive skills are brilliant, are other Time Lords a mental match for The Doctor? Plus he seems to have a big thirst for knowledge, and I'm assuming travelling for so long in The TARDIS has just made him a brainbox as the years have gone by, so I was wondering is he smarter than his own people?

Most are far smarter than The Doctor, his advantage is street smarts.

Oh so if him and another Time Lord put each other to the test he'd lose? I always Imagined that our best technology is like little toys to Time Lords now, and our current Science.

It's a running gag throughout the series, the fact that the Doctor is by far more intelligent than most people he meets on his travels, yet is actually not particularly smart by Time Lord standards.

Just as one example, Romana was often implied to be a lot more intelligent, plus I think the Master beat the Doctor in some subjects at the Time Lord Academy. When his childhood days are referenced, it's often implied that he wasn't by any means an amazing student by Time Lord standards.

This is basically like asking 'is any human smarter than all others?' to which the answer would likely be similar. He is smart, but he hasn't particularly been shown to be the smartest timelord who ever liver lived. His wealth of experience though gives him acquired knowledge that those who might be academically smarter than him would never be able to have.

Yep he'd lose, basically whenever he met the Time Lords they always took a shot at his intelligence, he wasn't a great student. And in the Brain of Morbius it is shown he has an average mind for Time Lords, not in the upper category.

On paper, they are much more intelligent than he is. They view him as a throw-back to a more primitive age. They elected him President on multiple occasions. If you look over the pond and see Trump, Reagan and Bush Jr, it's hardly a measure of your abilities

In 'reality' though, he's saved their behinds on multiple occasions, so draw your own conclusions from that.

Basically he's the Sherlock of the Time Lords. And easy comparison to make, I know, but that's where I would place him.

I would say all the really clever Time Lords absconded - The Master, The Rani, The Meddling Monk. When you're that smart, being stuck on Gallifrey must be torture.

I don't think Sherlock is the greatest example as he is far smarter than every other human, while The Doctor is low down the chain in Time Lord intelligence.

But what he lacks in brains (comparatively speaking) he surpasses every Time Lord in street smarts, determination and most importantly imagination. The invasion of time shows it perfectly, Time Lords lacked imagination and will to actually outwit the Sontarans, but The Doctor's street smarts, imagination and quick thinking was able to save them.
