I'm looking for a Christmas dessert as an alternative to Christmas pudding as it's not very popular in our house. Something more along the lines of a cold dessert - I've seen M&S do a couple but I'm not particularly taken.

It will almost definitely be a bought one - I don't think I'll have the time to make one.

Any ideas?

I like xmas pudding but my husband don't so we get something else. This year we've got a chocolate tree cake for Christmas Day and a cherry cheesecake for Boxing Day both to order from Morrisons.

Carte D'Or has some scrummy desserts.

My favourite is the Marscapone. It has a bit more substance to it than regular ice cream. I think something like this would be lovely jazzed up with some meringue and maybe a drizzle of something alcofrolic..

It's REALLY easy making a Tiramisu and it's boozy so it'll still feel Christmassy.

Currently there's one called Apple Tarte which is delicious.
I was hoping they'd bring back a seasonal one that they did last year, Cinnamon Biscuit, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

Alternatives to Christmas pudding

I would say look at the range of cheesecakes on offer in the local supermarkets - delicious and not heavy and dense.

Many thanks for your suggestions. I'll have a good look at them.

I want something a bit more special than ice-cream or cheesecake and I' prepared to spend more than usual on something really nice.

Beat me to it. When I was a kid, Vienetta always seemed to be the very height of festive indulgence and excess.

You can always add something to make it more elaborate.

Sainsburys in the past have done a Taste The Difference ice cream with orange and cranberry running through it (not seen it this year though). I served it with caramelised fresh orange slices as a Christmas dessert .

When we have vienetta my husband buys one mint and one plain. He has half the plain and I have half the mint. Following night we repeat. My husband isn't keen on the mint one but I love it so hence why we buy two but always half each

I'd rather have a generous serving of good quality vanilla ice cream any day.

Don't like Christmas pudding? Sorry, I don't understand

I'm making tiramisu (as well as Christmas pud),which is very indulgent.
I use this recipe:

Happy to help and yes that 2nd link has some mouth-watering sounding puds. Here's something else to tempt you, a little off the wall, but different, although note the website isn't loading properly on both IE9 and Firefox 42: http://www.royalsweets.co.uk/chilled-desserts-c-35.html.

Another online bakery similar to the first two: https://hummingbirdbakery.com/order/.

Also there are several regional patissieries/bakeries that will home deliver within their local area. For example here's one in Devon that sounds nice: http://www.devondesserts.co.uk/.

Another idea: https://hungryhouse.co.uk/desserts-takeaway.

I bought a two pot microwave Spotted Dick today which I've put aside for Christmas

To be honest it doesn't look very nice on the picture .........it looks like a brown sponge with some currents in

I always thought Spotted Dick should be white and more Suet than Sponge
