The elder ones should try explaining to the young members of their family about the fantastic opportunities that can arise from Brexit, and what Britain was like before entering the UK and how fantastic the country was.
If you never had something, you can't miss it.. so the people who was born while we was in the EU never knew what it was like before. The days of when you could live in a small town and leave your doors open for friends to come by for a cuppa etc. |

I have seen no evidence of disunity, in fact I see people who voted to remain, wanting to get on with the job of leaving, some of them on here which ought to help you see the light. I've spoken to my brother and sister in the past month or so and the subject never even came up. Wich one of you and your brother doesn't want to speak to the other?
As for brother and I, we had a huge row before the vote, and since I haven't phoned him, he hasn't phoned me. They live in Devon and love coming up to London ever few weeks, when I put them up. A pleasure I assume they are forgoing. I'll see if we get a Christmas card before I reciprocate. |

Ultimately we rely a great deal on responsible political leadership and media influence in shaping rational attitudes. People do not magically conjur their beliefs and opinions out of nothing. Unfortunately in my view we have a political system that is adversarial and a media that tends towards the reactionary and these realities have consequences for how individuals think. You can see this clearly from this forum.
It drives me nuts that we are so obsessed with fighting each other and attempting to prove our own pre-existing beliefs to be the 'correct' ones. Not least because I think our in-fighting benefits our rulers far more than it benefits us and our rulers know this. It's a pointlessly ego-driven phenomenon that I believe works against the collective good. I felt one of the best reasons for voting to leave the EU was that we had never properly joined and would never do so. I think it's fair to say that half-hearted attitude is a reflection of how divided we have been over the last 3 decades or so and obviously the referendum has just highlighted that division even more. So we've been disunited for a long time and, until we experience a real paradigm shift away from individualism based on outdated ideas about human nature, it will continue. |

Quite. Wouldn't the kippers just LOVE to go back there,
To give the benefit of the doubt though I don't think they're all racist xenophobes. I think many who voted Brexit still honestly think that the UK will prosper better if its not part of Europe. They have this deluded belief that "Great" Britain is still this important world power as it was in the days of the British Empire. They think that the UK is somehow being held back by Europe and we'll be far better off allowed to go it alone. Unfortunately by the time they realise this is all just a fallacy it will be too late and we'll just be this insignificant inward-looking little island which will have been left far behind the world powers of the US, China and mainland Europe. |

Unite the nation? You must be joking! It's not going to happen. The genies have escaped and will not go back in the bottle. The nation is split right down the middle and a devious and autocratic Prime Minister has been exposed trying to force the nation down a one way path contrary to democratic principles. Both the referendum and the government's slippery attempts to implement its result behind our backs are a disgrace, and the fact that such medieval monkey-business as the Royal Prerogative is being used in this respect is an added insult to Parliament and all of us. However, at least the deeply flawed nature of the inadequate British constitutional shambles and the shabby roles of the Monarchy and government have been exposed for what they are - a hollow sham. Whether or not Brexit ever gets off the ground remains to be seen, but the damage done to the nation is now irreversible. The fact that it was all unecessary makes it even worse. Kissing and making up is not going to happen. A great wrong has been inflicted upon the nation and it will continue to fester.

After brexit things are going to go from bad to worse to worst for britain.
If brexit can't be stopped or at least nullified with soft brexit the best thing to do is to leave britain. |

The only 'division' I have personally come across is here on DS, since June very few of my friends have ever mentioned leaving/staying in the EU.

Well, that kind of comment isn't going to unite the nation! I'm sure that most Remainers are lovely people.
I should have said I can't work out whether some remainers who post on here write awful things deliberately or inadvertently. . |
