Well I have to say Wizzy that here we have finally cut all ties with the racist / sectarian end of the family over what they said on phone and f/book about Brexit. It was bad enough leading up the vote, but since the result things worsened to the point of no return. Married in members of my family were directly referred to in a disgusting racist manner and their original family culture denigrated.
Basically we should have apparently voted Remain so that more white Catholics come here instead of (deleted). But there was history here as they had been offensive in the past. But no ties have been cut with closer family and friends who voted Remain, and like you I can't imagine how that would happen. We are all happily getting on as usual, but then there was nothing personal in it, whereas Trevgo seems to take everything about Brexit as a personal insult. There are more important things in life for most people. |

Morris Dancers. We Brits, of all and no political persuasions, can stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and laugh at them. Unless it's raining.

Facebook was absolutely shocking following Brexit. My sister voted leave and her facebook friends called her daughter of Hitler who wanted immigrants murdered and they wished her imminently to be born baby to die in her womb. Needless to say she was bereft, and I have been beaten up by a maniac who claims I've ruined his daughter's future by voting leave. Political talk is no longer engaged at work as you never know who is listening. I haven't fallen outwith folk though as I refrained from social media for ages after the vote!

If we have a second one and remain wins out will we then have a best of three? Or would it be the usual thing with EU referendums where we only have voting until the correct outcome has been made? Also will British people who left the country after the last referendum be allowed to join in?

I only had two London friends who voted Leave, now I have none who did so. And they have a lot less too. Bragged their stupid heads off afterwards, so I have zero sympathy.
We are two nations now and always will be. This will last for generations. "Dad, why can't I travel, live, work, study freely in the EU when all the others can?" "Because your great granddad never left the 1950s, and ruined it all for you". |

That would be incredibly democratic - as the demos would have multiple opportunities to vote - but, I suspect that the electorate would be sick to death of referenda by the time we were through with deciding.

The country has always been divided.
North v South. Workers v bosses Town v gown England v other parts of the UK Rich v poor Posh v plebs Protestants v catholics This is nothing new. Things will eventually settle down to the normal levels of mutual contempt that drive our society. |

"Because your great granddad never left the 1950s, and ruined it all for you". In any case, I'm sure there will be lots of ways of travelling, working and studying in the EU or anywhere else for that matter just as there was before we joined. Why can't you realise that if we are two nations it's not because of those who exercised their democratic right to vote how they wanted, but because of stubbornness on the part of those who won't accept that. |

Email from a young soldier to his Mum and Dad: "We were in a bit of a battle yesterday. We won (just) but it was close. I wasn't hurt and we took some prisoners. They spoke a bit of English and one old boy said to me - Why are we fighting? You're young. In my youth we could all travel to each other's countries and visit friends, have a few beers, and a bit of fun. No problems. Why did the old ones in your country turn your back on us?. I couldn't answer him, Mum & Dad. Do you know?

This is a ridiculous post. Future generations will not be comparing themselves with "the others" in the EU, because we will be out of the EU. They won't even think of it.
In any case, I'm sure there will be lots of ways of travelling, working and studying in the EU or anywhere else for that matter just as there was before we joined. Whatever people's reasons for voting leave were, I'm quite shocked that most seem to have no sympathy or compassion at all for these youngsters who feel they've been denied future opportunities through no fault of their own. The general feeling just seems to be "You lost, get over it, stop moaning!", which comes across as extremely heartless to me.

Of course future generations will resent it. I know many young people, some of whom were too young to vote last June who were really upset by the vote to leave. They'd grown up taking for granted that they'd have the freedom to study and work all around Europe just like some of their parents did and all this was suddenly taken away. There weren't the same opportunities before we joined the EU and there won't be after we leave. That's the whole point!
