Fair enough, but you are you, and other people are other people.
Yes true but I feel we have become a nation of moaners, easily offended I dont recall headlines ever being about a kid being called fat. In fact its not even news in my eyes! its not offensive, just a bloke dressed as santa who said "Could lose a bit of weight son" hardly anything to get worked up about.

Lol I'm not like most people, only thing that pisses me off is racism and stuff that really is awful. Name calling however doesn't offend me, stuff like fatty or speccy or baldy would not offend me one bit. Maybe because I have a thick skin and know how to take it. It doesnt bother me, never has done.
Perhaps because you're also not 9, although it's hard to be sure.

"Telling it like it is" always seems to be code for "saying incredibly rude things and expecting no repercussions".

I imagine it went down something like this ....
"I wanna MacBook Pro , a PS4 , iPhone 7 , I wanna , I wanna , I wanna , I wanna , I wanna , I wanna , I wanna , I wanna "
"You wanna lay off the burgers and fries"

Even as a kid I was never offended like that I just said something back just as rude or tame. My point is todays society is too over sensitive, even the kids.

"Telling it like it is" always seems to be code for "saying incredibly rude things and expecting no repercussions".
Theres a fine line from saying "you could lay off the burgers" to going up in someones face and hurling painful insults at them then beating them. I thought what this santa said was tame but the moral outrage is utterly pathetic just whipped up. Wouldnt surprise me if a lot of the story was exaggerated just for effect you know what the media are like! working class bashing, making up stories just to get headlines etc.

I don't agree that a 9-year-old wouldn't be upset, but I do agree that shooting off to the press about every little thing is a pain in the arse!

what a nasty grinch, he should mind his own business.
His business is having a procession of kids sit on his knee one after the other. i imagine having a fat kid like that sitting on his knee would be quite a strain. And it's not like he actually called him fat, he just gave him some advice, that the kid would be much better off taking than crying about it.

And never mind being fat shamed, surely it's more embarrassing for the kid that he went to see Santa at 9 years old and now evetyone knows about it. Now he's going to get the piss ripped out of him at school for two things. And that he cried all night about it, so make that three.

Good on Santa for being honest. The kid is fat, i'm sorry there's no getting around it.

I can't even understand what the mother is saying. The son isn't that much better
Yeah way to go tell a kid he's fat and no doubt line up a whole host of body image complexes for him in later life

On the other hand if that video hadn't been posted on the internet then there's a chance it might all have blown over by the time christmas actually got here.

Good job mum.

Not like the kids in school are going to bully him now or anything.

If he doesn't do something about his weight his life's likely to be a short one anyway.

He was insulting a child, who had simply wanted to visit Santa. It was just rude and I'm not sure why so many people are fine with it. Rudeness seems to becoming more and more acceptable.

I don't agree with the mother's response though.

The mother and the Santa were both at fault: her for publicising the incident and embarrassing her child; Santa for making rude remarks about something which quite frankly is none of his business. How does he know what's going on this kid's life? And if the right person (e.g. a GP or kind relative) does want to mention the kid's weight, their comments should be made to the mother and father who are responsible for feeding him.

I think those that agree with the santa including myself dont think its offensive as he didnt actually call him fat just gave him some advice. Like a few others have just said he will get bullied at school now his mum kicked up a stink over practically nothing. It could have just gone without notice and blown over but she made it out to be some massive thing (scuse the pun)

It's America.

He's not sick. It's not puppy-fat. It's too much fries, pizza, burgers and fried-chicken.

Multinational Corporations are allowed to kill people and Doctors get sued if they cautiously suggest that children may have a weight issue.

This Santa has done a valuable Public Service and an act of concern and kindness for this boy.

Exactly. The mother should have kept it to themselves rather than puting it all over the internet. And it's the mother (and father) who should be ashamed of the size of her kid, not the kid himself. Shes the adult; the one responsible for his diet and exercise, and she's failed miserably.

Yup and it took a santa claus to finally say what people were thinking, losing a bit of weight isn't a crime neither is getting your arse off the couch and going outside with your mates instead of sitting indoors on the Playstation all day playing Call of Duty.

Santa was doing the child a favour by trying to look after the child's health, the whole medical world is worried about obesity in children and future health problems
The parents, and posters who take objection to his comments, should start looking at themselves and not project themselves onto this child and it's mother
It is after all a form of child abuse

Who's offended? People are saying that perhaps Santa could have minded his own business.

When did we become a nation where it's ok to name call?

We've always slagged fatties im not saying it's right as i used to get it in school myself i suppose it'll either go two ways you slim to avoid such remarks as i did or be unlucky enough to build up a whole host of body related image problems for later in life.

Certainly it's one of the last ways you can discriminate against people without going to prison i firmly believe as it can cause psychological problems for people in later life there should be a law passed to prevent this abuse from happening in playgrounds up and down the land as in the time you've taken to read this some kid will have been
fat-shamed in the PE changing rooms.

The mother was obviously offended enough to go and whinge about it to the papers and so are many like this in the world that we could do without. Its not news.

I thought the Wii was supposed to solve all these problems. Is it no longer wanted?
