Maybe it's all just too uncertain. Could it be that the government can't give the financial institutions the same assurances they gave to industrial companies?

There has been major planning going on all Autumn by the big financial organisations. Not just banks. Carney has been doing his best to get them to not be too hasty according to Bloomberg. Come the new year if government is still talking about not being in single market they will press the trigger to move. Germany saying yesterday that they believe that Frankfurt will get majority of business that moves.

It's expensive and disruptive to move so the banks are hoping they won't have to, but it would be foolish not to plan for it. It's what anyone sensible person would do.

It's highly unlikely that a bank will completely move out of London. They are probably just investigating establishing some satellite offices.

Good. Next time the banks go bust it'll be Germany's problem.

They just need an office with a boiler plate and a fast internet connection.

Actually this is a step backwards from the BBC. In the days after the referendum BBC Businesses Ben Thompson was naming banks and saying they were going. Have any left? Now all we are getting is stories with little or no details.
