I'll admit to only being familiar with his Christmas song, but it's one of my favourites.
Wonder if it'll go to number one this year. |

As a dedicated Crimhead I'm gutted about this. He was such an important element on the first 2 albums.

IMHO The greatest Christmas song EVER-nothing comes close and as a member of ELP fanfare for the common man was the second best instrumental ever -so bad a bad effort

Great shame. That's 2 of ELP gone in 1 year.
![]() Loved Cadence and Cascade from King Crimson's In The Wake Of Poseidon, but no original version on YT, incredibly. |

Very sad news indeed.
A great singer and a superb bass player. Who can forget his soaring vocals on In the Court of the Crimson King, or the hugely complex bass line he laid down on 21st Century Schizoid Man? Many people will probably only remember him for his Christmas song, but with Roy Emerson (Nice) and Carl Palmer (Atomic Rooster) as Emerson, Lake & Palmer they made some really great albums in the good old days of prog rock. Massive influence and will be sorely missed, but we'll always have the music. RIP Greg.

Another really shocking death in the music world.
As soon as I read about this, I instantly thought of I Believe In Father Christmas and the tragic timing of his death and the fact Christmas is fast approaching. ![]() R.I.P. Greg |

Yet more sad news.
I remember buying In the Court of the Crimson King in my teens. As with others, Greg's is my favourite Christmas song of all time. |

![]() So you were paying attention after all. Deliberate mistake .. Keith Emerson it was of course, virtuoso keyboard player and ace knife thrower! |

Back in 2005, a Guardian reader sent in a question about whether it was possible to live off the earnings from a Christmas hit - and Greg Lake wrote back with his answer:
