Calls to sack Craig after Game of Thrones comments
It seems the DM have put their knife into Craig after his apperance on 8 out of 10 cats. Host Jimmy Carr, 44, asked Revel Horwood if he watched the programme and he replied: 'No, I persevered for the first series until the dragon came on and that's when I switched off.
'I liked all the sex scenes and the rape and I liked the cleavers through the skulls and I liked all of that, but I got very bored in the end.' Marilyn Hawes, founder of Enough Abuse UK, said she was 'absolutely disgusted' by his comment. She said: 'Craig's comments are deeply disrespectful. 'His comment would have enraged many women and men who have been raped. How could he say he liked that scene? I'm absolutely disgusted. 'You cannot have people on a family show with that mindset. I think the BBC should get rid of him. It is so distressing for people who have been raped to hear that. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...pe-scenes.html I didnt see the show but like most things I suspect it's been taken out of context. Also 8 out 10 cats is hardly a family show and sometimes things are near the knuckle on it. |

Good grief, he was talking about a TV show not REAL life. If people carry on like this, no one will dare open their mouths to say anything on tv.

He was probably just trying to be funny, and it backfired.
I'm definitely bored of the getting offended on behalf of other people. |

Here's the video Talk about an over-reaction.. PC brigade are ruining the World, not Trump ! such sensitive souls.. why are they not campaigning to stop the show!? bet they watch Game of Thrones and enjoy the show themselves.. Obvious Craig was avin' a laugh. Aisling Bea's dramatic reaction didn't help him to cover it up and move on. I don't envy being a Celebrity these days, you literally cannot take a poo without offending anyone ! |

Craig is a professional broadcaster and should know better, clearly thoose comments are very inappropriate and have caused upset.
He should apologise. However The Sun and the Daily Mail have their own agenda to embrass the BBC when ever they can. The calls for him to be sacked are way too disproportionate as he didn't say these on SCD or the BBC, and in fact were recorded and could be edited out by the broadcaster. |

And wouldn't he be freelance anyway? He's only contracted to judge on Strictly, so he's not likely to be a BBC employee.

I've watched the video. I think Craig did an excellent job of giving shade to a programme he obviously hated.
The comment about liking the rape was in a list with liking the cleavers through the skulls. Why isn't anyone getting upset on behalf of victims of knife crime? Because it was obviously a funny list of things Craig didn't like about Game of Thrones. Along with the dragons. Storm in a teacup, darlings. |

People enjoy watching films with car chases, dangerous driving, and horrific crashes all the time. They freely talk to each other about how enjoyable these films are with total seriousness. Car crashes are not a bundle of fun in real life and can be far more devastating than even rape.

8 Out of 10 Cats is a certain type of "edgy" programme on Channel 4 (itself an "edgy" broadcaster) hosted by Jimmy Carr (who again is hardly a family-friendly comedian or presenter). I doubt if sugary, saccharine comments would go down well on such a programme.
And wouldn't he be freelance anyway? He's only contracted to judge on Strictly, so he's not likely to be a BBC employee. The same tabloids made a fuss out of a scene in Poldark, and yes I am sympathetic to the charities views on it, however it was in the story, and only a handful of complaints st ofcom eho threw thst out. The Sun and Mail like to whip it up, but also like near the mark problem pages and ladies on page three so are hypocrites. |

He should apologize, at the very least.
I don't care whether he was havin' a laugh - rape isn't the sort of thing to have a laugh about it. I don't care if he didn't mean any offense, what he did (in my opinion, and I'm sure others) could certainly be construed as offensive. There often seems to be a prevailing mood nowadays that anyone who takes offense at something can't take a joke or is being too 'PC'. Donald Trump has frequently said that we're all 'too politically correct' to justify his comments on women, Muslims, I could go on. I'm all for liberalism and freedom of speech but there are limits, and it's increasingly becoming the case that people are using the idea that 'we're all too PC' to justify saying anything at all. Bottom line, for me, in this situation - Craig has said something which I believe (and I'm sure others would too) that is offensive - he should apologize, at the very least. |

No he should not apologize.
More professional faux outrage from those wanting to find offence around every corner. He was talking about a fictional television programme, not the real world. |

Is there any outrage more cynical than faux outrage?

Calling for Craig to be axed from Strictly is probably an overreaction given the context of the show where he made the comments, although I suppose one could argue the context doesn't matter, given he is not an 'edgy' comedian but a judge on a family-friendly entertainment show. What he said will be seen as offensive by many - I certainly grimaced at it and I completely disagree that Aisling Bea's reaction was dramatic. I hope he apologises. Edited to add: Why do so many claim any outrage they disagree with is 'faux'? Are you unable to consider that fact that people may have genuine reactions that you don't? Calling people's legitimate reactions 'faux', whether you agree with them or not, is patronising at best. |

Do you have personal experience of rape? My guess is not as you would not make such a statement in this cavalier way. The defenders of people who say inappropriate things are worse sometimes and so it is with your comment, which I find offensive.

I think it is a tad rich though coming from the Sun though which had a girlie mag page for years on end.
Obviously if a columnist or journalist for The Sun was claiming outrage, then I could see your point. |

I'm outraged on behalf of all those who have had cleavers through their skulls...
