On Saturday, WHSmith gave me an AA05 five pound note as change. Would it, realistically, fetch anything on eBay due to it having an AA serial number?

If anyone is stupid enough to give you more than a fiver for it then bite their hand off!

Not really. Some have sold on ebay for maybe £7 or £8.

Probably not but, then again, you've got nothing to lose by sticking it up there....

It's worth a fiver.

AA01s maybe, but even then, only worth what someone is willing to offer in exchange, pal.

Except that ebay will probably take £2 - 3 in fees and commission so maybe making you worse off.

Can one not set a reserve? That would at least restrict the options to a) being slightly better off or b) no change.

Minimum reserve is £50 and costs 4% of the reserve price regardless of whether or not the item sells.

Oh well.

Perhaps the best option is just to, well, spend it on something!

Also worth noting there are currently 7319 £5 notes on ebay, there are thousands of AK47's and AA's; I would suspect supply far outweighs demand for them at this point.

Plus of course putting a reserve on an ebay item is a sure fire way of reducing the selling price.

The real way to do it is if it doesn't meet your minimum then you just refuse to sell it.
