DAB + to replace MW, FM
If DAB + is to eventually replace MW & FM, will there have to be dozens more DAB Mux systems throughout the country? Do the signals from DAB cover a smaller geographical area than say FM signals? My understanding is that they have discovered a cheaper design to transmit DAB channels, so this will no doubt make replacing the old systems slightly cheaper. Interesting times ahead for radio.

When there is more listening on digital than analogue a date for a DSO will possibly be announced and existing mux coverage be extended to match FM.
There might be a new muxes for Cumbria, borders, Channel isles and IoM. There are likely to be more low cost minimuxes. Community and small commercial stations will be able to stay on FM. |

My own guess is that it's only the national FM networks that will get switched off to begin with.
