I miss her too. She kept a smile on my face during some very dark miserable drives into work. As you say her show was bonkers. She once cut a song off after about 30 seconds announcing it was boring and depressing, and she vowed never to play it again.

Her stories of the Christmas tree that was still up in January were never ending. She sold her house and proceeded to slag off the new owners for their non payment of something or other. Her regular trips to Sainsbugs, her stories of holidaying in Oman. Who can forget that massive on air sneeze!!

I know she is not popular (and that is fine) but I like her.

Sarah was unashamedly not politically correct and sometimes would say and do things that would make you wince - reading out loud in various foreign accents for example. That won't have endeared her to BBC management. She even said she had been told not to, but continued anyway. Whenever she played her favourite song, Big Panty Woman, she always pronounced it in a cod Jamaican accent, "Big Panty Woo-mon". Cringey.

Apart from the dodgy cultural references, I found her madly eccentric show a fun 90 minutes: Much Beloved... Elaine Paige ("that woman")... the vicar who was locked in a lavatory at some Italian airport... cats, cats and more cats... Sainsbugs... Mary J "Bilge"... bedsocks... her harvest festival knickers, "all is safely gathered in"... her rants during the newspaper review... Dolly Parton, "Dear Dolly"... her love for actor Richard Armitage...

Sarah Kennedy is a true English eccentric. I miss her and wish her well.

You have summed her up perfectly. Political correctness were not words she understood. As you say she made us wince many times. A complete loose cannon.

Mad as a box of frogs, but never boring. I echo you last sentence as well.

I have not listened to anything on R2 earlier than Ken Bruce since Wogan and then Sarah left.

Sarah used to broadcast like she was talking to her friends over a coffee. Probably why she got into hot water a few times.

I knew I'd commented about Sarah back in the day, and now I have re-read some of what I wrote, it's my time to wince. Sometimes I was rather unkind. Her baffling ailments and frequent unexplained absences were frustrating, but she was unique and there is nobody like her in radio. After she left, I stopped listening to Radio 2 in the morning, because I cannot bear Vanessa Feltz, and don't get me started on Chris Evans.

There is very little information on the internet about what Sarah has been doing since she left, other than an unfortunate incident where apparently while driving past a field of rape, she suffered a sneezing fit of such violence it caused her to rear-end the car in front. According to the report, she left the scene of the accident. When the police arrived at her home, they were told she felt threatened, so drove off and had had a glass of wine when she got home to calm her nerves! As you do.

You've got to love Sarah Kennedy. I know I do.

PS. I have just remembered another classic. While playing Lone Ranger by Quantum Jump, after hearing "Maybe masked man he a poofter, try it on with surly Tonto. Let me tell you Mr Lawman, Tonto doesn't mind," the music stopped and Sarah said, "I think we've heard quite enough of that." LOL

I cannot think of anyone I would like more than Sarah Kennedy to have round for coffee, Jimmy. Apart from you, maybe.

Thank you "Jimmingtons". We shall have a coffee in Sainsbugs soon, once I've got over this cold on my chesticles. Got to dash now, it's 12th December and that means it's time to put the sprouts on if they're to be ready for Christmas Day.

I look forward to it. Perhaps with some Eaglingtons or Kinkingtons playing in the background.

Must admit Mollie Green reminds me of Sarah Kennedy, obviously without the alleged habit!

I used to catch a small part of her show on R2 when I worked shifts and had to be in at 6am, and I must say!. 'I really enjoyed it' she was usually reading the papers just before 6 and I loved her interpretation of some of the stories....

It's interesting how some people are allowed to be "daringly politically incorrect", but others aren't. It's almost as if the BBC turned a blind eye, if the ratings were good enough.

I can remember exactly where I was on my early-morning drive to work when she made the comment about nearly running-over a black man; "if he hadn't have been smiling I'd never have seen him", and thinking that she'd be in trouble over it.

Meanwhile, in another part of the BBC, an amusing "Little Britain" sketch about puking up the cakes when you realise they've been baked by a Pakistani women passes the "It's one of our mates, so that's Irony" test.

Yet Gazza is prosecuted for saying something similar.

Sarah Kennedy was allowed to operate with complete disregard for the quality or otherwise of her programme. She played ridiculously bad music. Who wants screechy show tunes at 7.30 in the morning ? When she did play a good track she would jump in at a random point in order to say something stupid like "Terry has arrived and he's wearing taupe today" thus ruining the enjoyment. She clearly had no interest in music whatsoever. ( a common trait at the BBC)

She provided an absoluitely crap programme and she knew it. She could not care less and neither could her bosses. She regularly crashed the news. It was car crash radio of the first order and she was paid a fortune for it.

On the occasions I caught her programme I found her to be highly irritating. Not only because of her annoying habit of talking over records but also the idiotic things she would come out with. And then, the most annoying of the lot, when she was reviewing the papers she would rustle the papers so loudly that it was completely distracting.

But each to their own, she must have been doing something right given how long she presented the programme for.

i think really it was that she didn't come across as ''schooled'', i found her warm with just the right Tempo for that time in the morning.

I remember when Richard Allinson use to sit in for Sarah Kennedy he would change the show tune feature to songs from the movies feature. He must have hated show tunes so instead playing a pop track used in a movie. I used quite like this as I hated the show tune feature.

Same here confuddled. I too felt she was just right for the time of day and fitted the 5am slot perfectly.

Wherever you are Sarah, whatever you're doing, I hope you're well.
